Proposal: Coal Tax Evasion?

Timed out and passed, 4 for, 1 against and 3 unresolved DEF. Josh

In rule 2.7, change the sentence

Any Commoner occupying a County that is the start point of a Trade Route may not claim the Resource of that Trade Route when Scavenging.

to read

Any Commoner occupying a County that is the start point of a Trade Route may not claim the Resource of that Trade Route when Scavenging, unless that Resource is Coal and their Income is negative.

I was just discussing this on IRC. If you’re in the right county, you can refuse to reduce your Coal by not claiming the negative amount.

It’s not a bug, it‘s a feature. And it makes sense (for the game play): If you have a negative Income, you have disadvantages on intermediary Counties or end points. So you could have an advantage on start points.

Additionally, “discussing” in the flavour text is not really true. You realised this feature (or, more objective, “point”) and then you quit.

imperial didn’t think about how you would pay more on middle or end counties.

Sorry for quitting, Keba. In fact, to be honest, it makes no sense that those with negative incomes are disadvantaged at the middle and end of trade routes - if coal is moving through these places, shouldn’t they get more of it? Would anyone support a reproposal removing all income changes for those with negative incomes, or do you like them?

Or maybe instead of removing changes, we could set fixed bonuses (at end of Trade Route, +25 Coal, +10 Iron, +3 Cogs etc. - these could all correspond to the existing bonuses, other than the bonus for Coal). Post any ideas you have if this interests you.

Well, your idea of fixed bonuses is at least much better than this one…

imperial  I don’t really like trade routes.
