Proposal: Cold Dust

If “Work to Rule” failed, this proposal has no further effect.

In “Energy Cycles”, replace “or if at least 85% of Workers have a hot machine, it has been at least 36 hours since the last Cycle action was performed, and it has been at least 12 hours since the last time a machine was activated” with:-

or if all Workers without Dustsheets have at least one Hot Machine

Add a step after the second in the Energy Cycle list:-

# For each Worker with no Hot Machines, replace a Clink in their Line (if they have one) with a Dustsheet

Add a Machine to the list:-

Dustsheet
* Cost: None when activated; one Box when being added to a Line
* Effect: Replace this Machine with a Cold Clink

In “Machines”, replace “an ordered list that defaults to one Clink machine” with “an ordered list that defaults to one Dustsheet machine”.

A different take on ending the round early: instead of going ahead at 85%, we wait for everyone - and if we end up timing out, the players we were still waiting on aren’t counted as part of “everyone” next time. But they can step back in at any time.

this has a big flaw where taking your turn takes a little while. If you go late, even if its not because you intentionally waited just because you didn’t have time to take your turn for a little while, someone could start a cycle while you’re still making your moves.

I think we’d need some kind of “complete” flag that you can set to true yourself, or gets set to true when all your machines are hot and base it off that.

I also think there are some timing issues here. Getting to control when the cycle happens is potentially a big enough advantage people might be incentivized to wait for someone else to go first. Whereas if you keep it on a fixed schedule, eventually you have to go and the timezone advantage gets counterbalanced by the 36/60 hour thing.

I think this would be better with some sort of “done” flag (or, on the flipside of that, an “I’m still thinking” flag). As it is, you’re effectively forcing the last player’s actions in a cycle to all be done in the same wiki edit, lest someone jump in with a cycle action during them, which can’t be good for understanding the gamestate history.

I might vote for this proposal anyway, though, as the 85% limit is somewhat arbitrary.

as we’re after the 4 hours, the “close off someone’s turn” issue is too big to let this slide. (though even with that fix, I think I prefer Josh’s version to alleviate the time zone issues or the “go take your turn” pressure)

for i like this better than the 85% limit, clucky’s problem w/ it almost certainly won’t come up for multiple cycles & in that time it won’t be hard 2 patch

we get maybe one cycle to patch it. but you could easily see this get passed, the cycle end, and now suddenly you’re against the clock to get it fixed.

doesn’t seem worth the risk to me. just propose it proper

for I do like the “done” flag idea, but that can be a follow-up patch, this is still an improvement.
