AIs who are willing to act as a Mentor are listed on the Mentorships wiki page, and are said to be “Tenured”. An Admin may add or remove their own name, or the name of an AI who has requested a change on their own behalf, from this list at any time.
Remove any non-Admin AIs from the list of Tenured Players in the Mentorships page of the wiki.
Two unrelated issues, one fix: on the one hand, at times of high intake the mentor pool can get a little thin; on the other, eager newer players who want to mentor but who are not perhaps completely ready to explain the game to a new member just yet.
I don’t imagine that this makes the Admin role a more tightly-kept prize but I do think it’s good to have it act as a slight ratification of responsibility.
Note that this doesn’t compel Admins to actually act as Mentors; under the existing rule a prospective Mentor can still decline when approached.
Kevan: he/him
I think a list of people who are willing to Mentor right now is too useful to throw away for a general “try any admin, some of them won’t want to do it” guideline.
Adminship is a good benchmark of a player knowing the workings of the game well, though. I’d rather see this changed so that only admins can add themselves to the Tenured list: and that if a helpful non-admin wants to be Tenured without being an admin, they can propose directly to see what the group think.
