Add to the Crown Match rule before the paragraph beggining with “When a Player becomes Campione of at least two Games in the Crown Match”:
Contenders can at any time spend pegs to influence the next Crown Match Game that begins, modifying its setup in one of the following ways:
- For 5 pegs, remove a specific card from the deck, so that it cannot appear as the Grand Canal or in either Participant’s hand.
- For 10 pegs, ensure that a specific non-Permanent Trick be selected while determining Tricks.
- For 15 pegs, ensure that a specific Participant in the Game be dealt one additional card in their hand.
Modifiers that have been paid for but not yet affected a Crown Match are tracked on the gamestate wiki page. If any Contender spends pegs on a modifier that conflicts with previously paid modifiers (e.g. by requiring that more tricks appear in the Game than the rules allow, or making it impossible for all Participants to be dealt a full hand), all paid-for modifiers that haven’t yet affected a Crown Match Game are immediately negated, having no further effects. Pegs spent on negated modifiers are not refunded.
here’s an idea for a reason for Contenders to care about being given pegs more than just the black and white “will i have enough to win” metric :0
credit to, uh, gosh i can’t remember who made the “seeds” proposal a while back? credit to them for the 15 peg modifier idea!!
