Dynastic theme votes

I have three ideas for a dynastic theme, and I’d like voting on them.

* Final Fantasy (would mainly be influenced by the earlier FFs, especially FF1, but proposals based on later FFs are okay too)
* NetHack (I’d like to run this one, but we’ve already had a map-based dynasty relatively recently: The Second Dynasty of Purplebeard. However, we could make the map not as important, but keep the randomized dungeon crawling theme.)
* Spyro the Dragon (I don’t really expect this one to be the winner, but I’ll throw it out there anyway. It would be based only on the original PSX trilogy by Insomniac Games, with only a few passing references in rule titles and proposal titles to the later games.)

I wasn’t here for the DF dynasty (dangit!), so I would definitely be interested in a NetHack theme.

If we have a NetHack dynasty, you should be able to get an advantage for actually winning NetHack games on public servers. (Among other things, it would help people to get the theme better.) And maps should probably be avoided whatever the theme.

Also, I just noticed that Bucky’s content injection proposal would work just fine in a NetHack or FF dynasty, even if it was intended for this one.

barring the parts about cheese and culture.

the backpack proposal would also work well.

...would have, if it hadn’t just exploded in a pile of veto ‘s…
;-P

I’ll count ais as voting for NetHack, then.

Those being 1-3. Unfortunately I am too young to know any of these games very well. I did try FF1 on emulator but got frustrated by it too quickly. Heard about NetHack but again have not played it. Only spryro I know is the version for gamecube which seems cheesy and “for kids” but idk about the originals.

I’ve decided that voting will end at 20:00 UTC, by the way, or when I have a quorum of votes. Whichever comes first.

I’ve never played any of these games, somehow. Too busy playing Jet Set Willy and ATV Simulator I guess. But for NetHack sounds fun.

Just to be clear, everyone, Galdyn just made up that style of voting on the spot. I’m only counting one vote each, no -1 votes or anything.

Hey, be fair, I *totally* came up with AwesomVote3000(tm).

Narya:

This isn’t actually a valid vote at the moment, but my preference is
for Nethack

Narya: This form of voting isn’t gamestate, so it yes, it’s a valid vote (note that I counted ais523’s vote; he’s idle).

lilomar: Sorry, I got you and Galdyn mixed up.

Bucky:

I’d prefer Nethack as well.  However, a previous dynasty (2nd Angry Grasshopper) had a roguelike subtheme, and you should read up on that dynasty before starting a Nethack dynasty.

Klisz:

Sorry Bucky, but I’m willing to read about any dynasty except that one. I can’t comprehend the rules at all.

Bucky:

The roguelike stuff should be pretty straightforward, since it came before the secret rule explosion.  You can get most of the preserved bits by looking at just these:
*The map (http://blognomic.com/wiki/index.php?title=Monastery_of_St._Passignano_Map)
*Rules 2.3 and 2.4
*Rules 2.14 through 2.16

Klisz:

Ah, thank you, especially for the rule numbers (I didn’t want to have to weed those out on my own.)

Qwazukee:

Yeah, back when I was compiling the histories, the 2nd Dynasty of Angry Grasshopper was so utterly befuddling that I really couldn’t do anything for it. That one takes my vote as most confusing Dynasty ever… including arthexis’, where NOBODY knew what was going on.

Anonyman:

for Nethack (despite it being a game I’m terrible at).

Must we have a dynasty based on a computer game?

Klisz:

02-06-2010 19:42:53 UTC

@Josh: For my second dynasty, yes, because those are all my theme ideas. If you have one, feel free to post it, but unless it’s incredibly good I probably won’t use it without everyone switching their votes within 20 minutes.

Eh.
