Story Post: Haul: The Chophouse

Clucky, Jonathan, Juniper and NadNavillus are agreed.

Adminned at 16 May 2024 08:35:11 UTC

Pushing cheap cuts of meat around their plates, JonathanDark, Juniper and NadNavillus patiently watch the counter staff and Scout their sightlines, waiting for the moment to move. When it comes, Clucky takes a straightforward Standard approach at the till. Once the takings have been grabbed, 4st makes a Leap across the top table to grab some silverware, and the gang make quick their escape.

The Haul is 22 Florins and a Candlestick.

Myself, Juniper, and NadNavillus took on Notoriety to get more Florins for the Haul, and 4st injured himself to get a Possession.

I propose that 4st gets the Candlestick and 3 Florins, Clucky gets 1 Florin, and JonthanDark, Juniper, and NadNavillus each get 6 Florins.

+3 Notoriety to get +5 florins is not inline with what past splits have been

Last split we still gave you 4 whole florins despite only contributing one arm and nothing else.

So doesn’t really seem inline to only give me one for contributing DICE3 Florins + a shot at possession.

At that point you’re basically saying “never use the standard action you’re far better off just laying low”

also the candlestick is strictly worse than florins, but injuries are probably worse than notoriety. So this doesn’t really seem fair to 4st either

random possession (as calculated by value) adds ~2.5 Florins of value if you sell it, though getting a cloak/glove/helm/loupe could save people more value if you wanna buy it in the black market. Think its safe to put that at least 3 florins, meaning Standard adds ~3 Florins to the pot vs ~6 from Scouting (so Scouting gives us 3 more Florins on average). So feels like the compensation owed to people who Scout over going standard should be around +3

so overall there seems to be a few ways to split stuff up:

1) - what was actually contributed
2) - what the expected contribution was based on your action
3) - what the sacrifice was

If we do 1) then I should get two Florins, Juniper/JD/Nad should split 20 Florins, and 4st should get the candlestick

If we do 2) then expected contributions are

Juniper/JD/Nad: +6
Clucky: +2 + ITEM/3
4st: ITEM

As ITEM value is probably at least 3, I should be getting at least half of what Juniper/JD/Nad get

If we do 3) we’re kinda just encouraging suboptimal gameplay from everyone

One more point before I actually try to calculate a proper split here. If the argument is “Gaining 3 Notoriety is worth +5 Florins” then we’re actually arguing that a Candlestick is worth -2 Florins, as you only get 3 Florins from it but also gain 3 Notoriety from selling it”. So under this split, you’re really giving Me 1, 4st 0, and the rest of you 6 each

Okay, split time. I think the expected return value is probably the fairest number to use.

I think an item is worth around 3 all things considered (some are worth more than their value, others less so it averages out) but the Candlestick is really only worth an actual value of like 1 due to having to gain Notoriety to use it

This means we should split the pot 2:2:2:1:1, and have 23 total units to split

Ideally the split there would be 5.75/5.75/5.75/2.875/2.875

Not quite enough of everything to go around. Note that if you value the candlestick at 2 the split becomes 6/6/6/3/3 so its a lot easier, but I personally think that is overvaluing the candlestick.

So I’d be willing to do:

JD, Nad and Juniper each get 6
Clucky gets the Candlestick and 1
4st gets 3

But also happy to swap to Candlestick to anyone for +2 back to me.

Or we can finally start trying to stray from fair splits and cutting people out of deals all together

To be honest, I didn’t do the math, and since you have, I see your point. I’m not sure how exactly to factor in Notoriety gain when calculating the true value of a Possession, but your short-hand method seems reasonable at the moment. The exception to this is a Possession that has an Effect that’s “valuable” beyond its strict Value, like the Lockpick or the Loupe, but in this case the Candlestick isn’t one of those types of Possessions.

I agree with Clucky.

Yeah item value is hard to measure. Which is a good thing. Makes it harder to totally game the system.
