Proposal: Hell and High Tide

Number of Kaiju not voting AGAINST is less than Quorum. Failed by Brendan.

If the proposal “Stubs” failed, this proposal has no further effect.

Repeal the paragraph beginning “Some Kaiju have Secrets”.

Enact a new rule, “Abilities”:-

Some Kaiju have Abilities, which allow them to attack the Esteem of other Kaiju, or defend from such attacks. The abilities of Kaiju are tracked privately by the Attendant, and Kaiju default to having no Abilities. Each Ability has a Cost and may have a defined Effect; the available Abilities and their Costs and Effects are:-

  • Radioactive Fire (9 Esteem) Has no effect.
  • Amphibian (5 Esteem) Has no effect.
  • Smaller Cousin (1 Esteem) Has no effect.

Any Kaiju may buy an Ability by sending a Private Message to the Attendant specifying the Ability they wish to buy, and the amount of Esteem they wish to pay for it. Such posts are known as Bids, and must be processed in the order they are received. If the amount paid in a Bid is equal to or greater than the Power of the Ability, and equal to or less than the Kaiju’s own Esteem, then the Attendant reduces that Kaiju’s Esteem by the amount paid, and gives them that Ability.

Use a publicly-tracked resource to auction off “secret” things is a challenge, but here’s a stab at it, with some unusable placeholder kaijupowers.

against I feel like we can get closer to a bidding system. I’ll take a crack this evening.

No bidding, just buying.

“Equal to or greater than the Power of the Ability” means that players can tactically overpay in order to conceal which Ability they’ve bought, but no, there’s not really much of an auction going on here.

against A big part of the inspiration of this round, for me, was Rumble, and I’d like to keep that mechanic of only one player possessing a given power at a time.
