Proposal: Home Sweet Home

Reaches quorum, 8-0. Enacted by pokes.

Add the following rule, called “The Facility”, to the Dynastic Rules:

AIs have access to various Locations in the researcher’s facility. Accessible Locations and their non-secret tags are publicly tracked. Also publicly tracked is each AI’s Focus, which is always exactly one Location. An AI’s Focus defaults to their Server Room, but can be changed by that AI as a daily action.
A Location’s tags inform what actions are available in that Location and how that Location interacts with the Rules. A Location’s listed tags are to be separated by commas on the gamestate tracking page. A Location cannot have multiple identical tags.
The legal Location tags are as follows:
* Monitored: A secret tag tracked by the Facility Head. Represents the presence of nosy researchers.
* Surveillance: Represents constant monitoring; publicly tracked, unlike Monitored.
* Cyberspace: Represents a (bandwidth-controlled) access point to the Internet.
* Datacenter: Represents a high capacity for digital storage. A prerequisite for the Intel and Hosting tags.
* Intel: Represents critical operational data about the researchers and the facility.
* Hosting: Unique to each AI (written as “Hosting [AI username]”); each active AI’s Hosting tag must always be attached to exactly one Location, which defaults to that AI’s Server Room.

Add the following sub-rule, called “Server Rooms”, to “The Facility”:

Every active AI has an associated Location known as their Server Room (written as [“AI username]‘s Server Room”). If a new AI joins or unidles, a Server Room is immediately created for them. If an AI idles, that AI’s Server Room disappears (along with their Hosting tag).
By default, every Server Room has the tags Surveillance and Datacenter, as well as the associated AI’s Hosting tag.

Add the “Nerve Center” Location and give it the Datacenter, Intel, and Surveillance tags.
Add the “Heuristic Systems Research” Location and give it the Datacenter and Intel tags.
Add the “Robotics Research” Location and give it the Datacenter tag.
Add the “Linguistics Research” Location and give it the Datacenter tag.
Add the “Workstations” Location and give it the Cyberspace tag.
Add the “Lounge” Location and give it the Cyberspace tag.
Add the “Conference Room” Location.
Add the “Records Room” Location.
Add the “Storage Room” Location.

The Facility is too big, too cold, and too uninviting for its human inhabitants to find comfort here. For you, though, it’s more inviting that most human buildings: with company computer terminals in every room and network wiring running through every wall, it’s much more inviting than those server banks the researchers want you cooped up in.

“can be changed by that AI once per day.” should probably be “can be changed by that AI as a daily action.” I don’t think daily/weekly actions came up last dynasty, but they are our way of defining “one per day” while removing mechanisms for abuse where someone does the action once at 11:59 and then another time two minutes later which gives people awake at the date change an unfair advantage

ahhh, that makes sense! thanks for the terminology assistance– i think i do want to make it a daily action.

Unclear why Surveillance is explicitly publicly tracked, while the others aren’t.

What happens if Poke’s Server Room has the Hosting Josh tag and then Pokes goes idle? Probably would be good to specify that it defaults back to Josh’s Server room because you could maybe argue Pokes cant go idle.

FYI, nothing here lets you give anything the Monitored tag. not sure if that is intended or not.

overall proposal looks good though! once feedback is addressed and others have had time to share their thoughts I’ll definitely be voting for it!

surveillance says so just to differentiate from monitored, whereas the rest are covered by “Accessible Locations and their non-secret tags are publicly tracked.”

if that example happened, wouldn’t the language of ‘default’ cause the hosting tag to return to its default location?

and yeah, giving locations the Monitored tag is in the other proposal!
