Proposal: Horror of the Outer Gods

Unpopular 2 to 4. Failed by Derrick

Add a new rule titled “Eldritch Victory,” which states:

If an Adventurer has a number of Cryptic Clues in their inventory equal to Quorum, that Adventurer wins the game.

If quorum of Adventurers have a Squid Thingy Larva in their inventory, everybody loses the game.

We should start thinking about victory conditions. Unfortunately, this one is entirely dependent upon only one type of Monster.

Also, is “quorum” a proper noun, or is it alright to say “a quorum of Adventurers”? I still haven’t figured that out.

for I feel like this may be hard to achieve and we are likely to meet the failure condition, but sure.

I do like the idea of a quirky secondary victory condition with a risk attached, but I think this is more likely to go the path of making more Monsters with Cryptic Clues. I’d personally prefer a different type of victory condition.

everybody looses is equivalent to “everybody wins” and is likely to lead to a meta dynasty, which historically have struggled.

I think this is too straitforward.

against This is a lurch in a direction completely orthogonal to where we’ve been going so far.

“Quorum” and “Quorum of Adventurers” I think are both fine:

Quorum of a subset of Adventurers is half the number of Adventurers in that subset, rounded down, plus one. If the word Quorum is used without qualifying which subset of Adventurers it is referring to, it is referring to a Quorum of all Adventurers.

(Everybody loses was a hard sell even in a dynasty with an eldritch theme: https://blognomic.com/archive/core_tohu_va_vohu )
