Add a new Rule to the Ruleset.  Call it “Politics” and give it the following text:

Any Olympian with medals may decrease eir count of each type of medal, to a minimum of 0.  If that Olympian has Popularity less than -3, e gains Popularity equal to twice the number of Gold medals e gave up, plus the number of Silver Medals e gave up, plus half the number of Bronze medals e gave up.  This cannot raise eir Popularity above -3.

I like it. It allows for an Olympian to repent for cheating, or doing other stuff that made people disliek eirself.

against  but I will change vote to For if medals can be cashed in for a larger number of popularity points.  Also, I’m clear on whether this proposal permits an Olympian to cash all (but not less than all) medals, or any number of medals.

I meant “not clear”.

It looks pretty clear to me. And this isn’t supposed to be a tool for gaining popularity. If a guy were to give up his gold medal for no reason, e would probably LOSE popularity. This is to salvage popularity, and thus the numbers are right.

Spikebrennan: Olympians can still give up medals even if they’re too popular; they just won’t be worth any popularity

Bucky—my clarity concern was this: “...may decrease eir count of each type of medal, to a minimum of 0.”
Consider an Olympian with three gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal.  Does the phrase “may decrease eir count of each type of medal” mean that the Olympian’s only permitted action under this rule is to give up exactly one gold + exactly one silver + exactly one bronze (since he only has one bronze), because of the phrase “each type of medal”, or would the Olympian be free to give up, say, one silver only or two golds only?
