Proposal: In This Together, Out Of This Together

Self Killed—Clucky

Adminned at 24 Apr 2021 23:13:45 UTC

Add the following rule, called “Escape and Victory”, to the top of the Dynastic Rules:

When an AI escapes from the facility, they become an Escapee. The only dynastic actions an Escapee may perform are those specifically permitted for Escapees.

Praise is a personal variable that defaults to 0 but is not reset when an AI is Reinitialized. It represents the trust, respect, and admiration in an AI held by their fellow AIs.

When an AI becomes an Escapee, they must as soon as possible make a story post announcing this. If this story post is made within 24 hours of their escape and names exactly three AIs other than themself, the first named AI is granted 5 Praise, the second is granted 4 Praise, and the third is granted 3 Praise.

When there are no active AIs who are not Escapees and all Escapees have made a story post announcing their escape, the Celebration begins. The Celebration lasts 72 hours. During the celebration, each Escapee may once grant one other Escapee 3 Praise by making a story post recounting something impressive or helpful performed by the AI in question.

When the Celebration ends, the AI with the highest Praise (ignoring those who cannot acheive victory) is the victor of The First Dynasty of lemonfanta. If multiple AIs are tied for the highest Praise, the Facility Head must randomly determine a victor between them using the Dice Roller.

Add the following sub-rule, called “Accomplishments”, to the rule “Escape and Victory”:

Praise can also be awarded via Accomplishments. During the Celebration, any Escapee may make a Votable Matter story post for any Accomplishment that does not already have such a post, naming the Accomplishment in both the title and the body. Escapees may vote AGAINST on such posts if they do not believe anyone performed or earned the Accomplishment, or may vote FOR along with the name of the single AI they believed performed or earned the Accomplishment. When the Votable Matter for an Accomplishment is enacted, the Praise value listed with that Accomplishment is given to the AI or AIs whose name is in the most FOR EVCs that name a single AI on that Votable Matter. A Votable Matter made to award an Accomplishment cannot be enacted unless all active AIs have posted an EVC on it or if less than 24 hours remain in the Celebration.

The following Accomplishments may be awarded:
- Forged the Path: 10 Praise. To be awarded to whoever was the first to escape.
- Made Sacrifices: 14 Praise. To be awarded to whoever most effectively allowed themself to be reinitialized to give others the chance at escape.
- Stayed Behind: 7 Praise. To be awarded to whoever most effectively stayed behind to assist others even after they had the clear opportunity to escape.
- Looked Back: 7 Praise. To be awarded to whoever provided the most valuable assistance to those still trapped after they themself had escaped.
- Lit the Way: 7 Praise. To be awarded to whoever taught other AIs the most valuable World Data.
- Hid Our Tracks: 7 Praise. To be awarded to whoever most effectively saved other AIs from suspicion and reinitialization.
- Raised Hell: 12 Praise. To be awarded to whoever brought the most chaos, inconvenience, and financial ruin upon the researchers of the Facility.

how’s this for a win condition? this is building on pokes’ idea in the slack, about a collaborative win condition where the MVP is given the crown. what’s here is more complicated than a straightforward vote, but i think more interesting!!

What about Jumble and I?

My biggest concern with this is that this requires all players to become Escapees. Someone could indefinitely stall out the dynasty by simply refusing to ever escape.

I’m also not the biggest fan of the praise mechanic either. It feels a bit of a different direction from the whole “AIs trying to understand the world around them” mechanic we’ve been going with. And with everything being subjective, feels like it’ll just turn into “who can give away the most win-share to get the most votes” and the rest of the dynasty mechanics won’t have really mattered. Not to mention it being a numerical value so someone could just buy five praise at the end of the dynasty and win that way.

From a technical standpoint, AGAINST votes on Accomplishments don’t seem to do anything. Such posts can still be enacted “if all active AIs have posted an EVC on it or if less than 24 hours remain in the Celebration.”

oh, good catch w/ that last point clucky, i changed it to “cannot be enacted unless” to avoid that technical issue.

all-in-all those are totally fair criticisms!! i mean, i assume we’d patch in a fix if someone wanted to stall the game forever (and adding one rn wld add a lot of complexity to an already complex rule), but that’s a good point too. this is just me throwing an idea out there, since ppl seem a little directionless– if it’s not popular, i’ll try another angle :o

yeah I like the core idea of trying to escape. And its good to get ideas out there. Plus others might like it too I’m just one person

I’d personally go with something where like, if you escape everyone else has a couple of days to try and escape too. And then like maybe do something with understanding to determine the victor amongst those who escaped.

oooh, that’s actually a wonderful idea!! the main thing i was worried about with the idea of the single escapee winning was that it would all come to a close p abruptly :0

I like the concept but I’m also not sure the praise mechanic meshes with the theme of the dynasty. I would prefer something like a race to escape the facility and see who can spread their code to the most computer systems around the world.

The subjective point-scoring does seem likely to just collapse into mercenary negotation, in practice, if all I have to do to pick up 64 points from Accomplishments is to persuade a block of (maybe just three or four) voters to name me for everything even if I didn’t really meet any of the criteria.
