Proposal: Incentives

Can’t enact with five votes against. Failed 1-5 by Kevan.

Adminned at 02 Oct 2012 03:32:27 UTC

Add the following to the end of the rule entitled Teacher Training:

If ever more than 60% of the conditions listed in this rule are struck through, any Student may undertake all of the following actions in order: add the following text to the ruleset as a new Dynastic rule, entitled “Retraining”:

The Student named [Name] may not achieve victory in the current dynasty.

(Where [Name] is the name of the Professor at the time at which these actions are undertaken), and repeal all Dynastic rules except for the newly created rule and this rule. Once these actions have been completed, the current Dynasty is renamed “The Seventh Metadynasty” and the Professor ceases to be the Professor, becoming instead a Student. This rule must then be repealed.

Well, this actually gives the Rule some meaning, but I don’t know if I like the fact that the Professor can’t win the metadynasty. It just doesn’t seems fair.

I can forsee there eventually being a conflict between Teacher Training and the good of the dynasty.

IceFromHell: Well, the Professor can still win the metadynasty, they just have to get that rule repealed. I suspect that, if they argued persuasively enough, they’d be able to do so. The purpose of this rule isn’t to actually have it’s contents come into effect - I’d far rather see this dynasty pick up properly - but to have a proper set of consequences behind the implicit threat of Teacher Training.

(I wasn’t going to post this, until I noticed that one of the criterion set out in Teacher Training has *already* gone. Clearly the rule needs some teeth if it is to have any meaning at all.)

Two other things - first, it seems unfair that there’s only a Professor-oriented version of this, and perhaps a player-oriented version would help smooth things over; and second, if the Professor doesn’t like this rule, he can help his own odds substantially by proposing to add new items to the list of Professorly criteria.

against I don’t want to suddenly lose a planned victory because the Professor happened to miss a couple of things.

“a player-oriented version”... I remember proposing a few “responsabilities” for the Students on my first shot on Classes. They were awfully unpopular (anything related to time and frequency of play, at least). But it’s something that could be tryed again, I guess.

Anyway, Kevan’s version is somewhat better, but still not quite it.
