Proposal: Instability

timed out 4-2 with 3 unrsolved defs enacted by card

Replace all past and instances of “stability” in the ruleset with “instability”

This is more representative of the actual statistic. Currently, high stability represents high entropy, while the reverse is actually true in real life.

Stability means its harder to roll. instability means that it is easier. That’s the real key. When you increase stability, you make it harder to roll.

Perhaps we should rename it, but what word means “Harder to roll”?

“Lumpiness”?

Sylphrena:

“sphericality”?

“Squareness”

Fair enough. I just initially interpreted it differently.

However, I would like to explain my point of view. Increasing the stability makes the Katamari harder to push. To me, that makes it seem like the Katamari is so ready to fall apart that the one pushing it needs to strain just to keep it together. It’s so unstable that it’s falling apart.

Actions like withdrawing items from the katamari makes it more unstable because you have to dig into the ball and remove something. Manipulating the contents of the ball undermines its stability. The way I see it, the higher the “stability” statistic is, the more unstable it is.

So to you stability means “Cohesion”, while me it means “Lumpiness”.

Yeah, we could use a different word.

If I think I understand, maybe derrick is thinking of a cube as being very stable (on its base) and hence hard to roll, and a sphere as being unstable because it rolls around by itself. Trigon is thinking of a smooth sphere as being very stable and hence easy to roll, but a weird lumpy sphere as being unstable and hence hard to roll?

I had already been thinking of it the Trigon-way, so for

We should modify the rules to explain what this statistic actually means when we reach some sort of consensus.

imperial Would be better to use a clearer adjective instead of rotating the currently ambiguous one.

Its even worse as instability.
