Proposal: Itemization

Vetoed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 12 Nov 2022 10:13:05 UTC

In the rule “Money and Items” replace this text

Each Visitor is carrying a number of Items. This is publicly tracked, and default to carrying no Items.

with this text

Each Visitor is able to carry 0-2 Items, which are any objects identified as “item” or “Item” in the rules. Visitors default to carrying 0 Items. Every Item carried by each Visitor is publicly tracked.

If a Visitor is already carrying the maximum number of Items, they cannot receive another Item from any rule or action that would give them an Item. Any action that would give the Visitor more Items than the maximum invalidates the entire action.

A Visitor may drop an Item, but the Item is then lost and cannot be picked back up. Dropping an Item is a Traffic Action.

An Item may have a Group effect or action that applies to all Visitors in the same Group. Any Item that has a Group effect or action must still be held and tracked to one specific Visitor in the Group.

If “Hold My Beer” is enacted, replace the text in the “Money and Items” section:

A Visitor may pass an Item they are carrying to another Visitor controlled by the same Group, if both of those Visitors are present at the same Attraction

With the following text below. If “Hold My Beer” is not enacted, add the following text to the “Money and Items” section:

A Visitor may pass an Item they are carrying to another Visitor controlled by the same Group, if both of those Visitors are present at the same Attraction and if there is no rule preventing the Item from being passed to the receiving Visitor. Passing an Item is a Traffic Action.

“Any action that would give the Visitor more Items than the maximum invalidates the entire action” would basically require a veto, as one overloaded Visitor in the wrong line would prevent Advancing the Queues entirely.

Ah, I missed that. My intention was to ensure that if a Group spent Money to acquire an Item for a Visitor, and that Visitor already had the max Items, the act of spending would be invalid, so the Group would not lose the Money they spent.

Any suggestions on how to re-word this Proposal to invalidate such a case without preventing Advancing the Queues? There’s some subtleties here. For example, if a Visitor is in Bucky’s BBQ Stand and they already have 2 Items, there’s a few ways to handle this:

* Skip the Visitor and admit the Visitor behind them

* Admit the Visitor, but they don’t receive the Brisket and they don’t lose any Money

* Don’t Advance the Queue for Bucky’s BBQ Stand at all, but continue to advance the other queues

I’m in favor of the second option. I just need the proper wording to make it work out.

The simplest wording is to have the Visitor just not gain the item; see Kevan’s “Fuel for the Fight”.

against for “invalidates the entire action”.

It is a bit tricky to hit the second option in Jonathan’s comment, that saying “instead they do not gain the item” might mean they still have to pay for the Brisket they didn’t get. The laziest solution might be to just say that if a Visitor is carrying more than two items, then they can’t move.
