Proposal: Keeping track!

Timed out and failed, 3-6 with 1 unresolved DEF. Josh

Adminned at 13 Jul 2011 23:18:35 UTC

In the rule “Turns” replace:

A Turn is the period of time between two consecutive Turn Boundaries.

with

A Turn is the period of time between two consecutive Turn Boundaries. Each turn has a number. If a turn boundary happens, the turn number is increased.

Create a rule called “Tracking” with the following wording:

Whenever a Gladiator takes an action he must put down a short notice describing his action on the wiki page called “Fight results”. Only notices from the three most current turns have to be tracked. Any Gladitor may delete older notices.

If the wiki page “Fight results” does not exist, the Gladiator adminning this proposal must create it. If it already exists it is blanked.

On a short notice, some mechanics to track actions in the wiki. I left the exact syntax open on purpose, but that should be clear. Things like: “Blacky is stepping to…”, “Hello Kitty of Doom is showing Blacky to D4, he falls in a pool and dies.”

Hm, this might turn out to be cumbersome, since action is not defined. (Main Action is, but if we track every action a Gladiator takes, we have to track comments, Proposals, votes, maybe even logging in and out of the Blog and the wiki. This needs rewording. against

Right… May be a greater problem, because the in the ruleset the word action is used in a broader sense. So I would suggest to find another word for action.

yep fix is already, proposed. “Move” is not a too bad word and subrules are considered

Maybe you should s/k this, Blacky…

Oh, and you didn’t explain where we should start counting turns. Are we in turn 0? 1? 4? -23? pi?

Blacky:

I know, it doesn’t matter does it?

Quote 3.3.1: “Unless otherwise specified, game variables defined to hold numeric values can hold only non-negative integers, and any action that would set those values below zero is an illegal action unless explicitly otherwise stated in the ruleset.”

mideg:

It might not matter but no one is allowed to put a first number in there, or is there?

As the turn number is a variable regulated by the rules, it is gamestate, thus only changeable if a rule allows it.

I might be over-quibbling. But since ‘turn-boundary’ is a noun, how can it ‘occur’?  against

Prince Anduril:

12-07-2011 15:53:19 UTC

or rather, ‘happen’

Blacky:

12-07-2011 18:34:17 UTC

I was not glad with happen either, however to avoid confusion I used the term from the ruleset. Quote: “A Turn is the period of time between two consecutive Turn Boundaries. If a non-Irregular Turn Boundary happens during Hiatus, it is ignored as a Turn delimiter.”

against It’d be good to keep track of this, but easier just to require a clear edit summary when editing the wiki, since it generates a full edit history. Maybe just prefix all actual game moves with “ACTION(S):”.
