I dont have slots but I’d propose to have a sort of (silent?) handicap auction (original idea: Derrick). Peglegs, opium addiction, what have you, so that we don’t rely too much on surprise timing.

Chief Mate

I prefer the auction idea, as I said. The basic concept is that you bid a worth for the position that you want, presumably negative. The better the position you have, the more worth you will need to complete in order to win.

Though I suppose I should make it as an actual proposal…

I don’t like replacing a race with another race. The auction would indeed be better.

I’m not sure why people seem to think this is a race. There’s nothing in the rule to say that multiple sailors can’t hold the same position, just that they can’t choose it “at any time” unless it’s free.

Yeah, but it would be silly if everyone were Chief/Second/Third Mate.

This is unnecessarily unfair to anyone who joins after this Proposal is enacted. How about “If a Sailor has never changed their Position during this Dynasty, then they may change their Position to any Position other than Captain.”?
