Proposal: Measuring range increase, like a boss

Amend all instances in the Ruleset of “1000” to “2000”.

Then, amend “Each time a Monster causes a non-Monster Adventurer or the Cathedral to lose an amount of HP via a Battle Action, that Monster gains that same amount of Havoc” to:

Each time a Monster causes a non-Monster Adventurer or the Cathedral to lose an amount of HP via a Battle Action, that Monster gains that same amount of Havoc if their Havoc is less than 1000. If it is 1000 or more, they gain half that amount instead.

I think it might be possible to hit 1000 Havoc pretty consistently. This helps tell the difference between two or more players that may hit 1000+.

against Looks like it’s going to take me five rounds minimum to hit a thousand, at which point I’ll surely have been killed?

If it weren’t that hard for a Monster to reach 1000 Havoc (which is disputed here), it is certainly very hard for it to gain more than 1000 Havoc (as this proposal stipulates), which makes it almost impossible for a Monster to “win” by earning maximum Havoc and depriving its opponents of any gain of Merits. On the contary, the Monster’s opponents gain an easy 1000 extra Merit at the end of each Battle. This is inflation; if nothing else, the 10 Merit bonus for Lore loses half its value this way.

(Actually, we don’t know what the average gain of Merit will be for Adventurers during a Battle under current rules, but it could well be less than 500; if that is the case, then the proposed rule change shifts a lot of weight away from earning Merit as a Monster and towards earning Merit as an Adventurer, rather than what seems to be a more balanced situation now.)
