Proposal: Monsters deserve descriptions too

In “Monsters”, amend the paragraph beginning “In the Bestiary” to read:

In the Bestiary, there is a list of monster types. Each monster type has a name, a description, a hit point value which is a positive integer, a frequency, which is an integer between 1 and 10, an ecology, which is a list of Wilds, and a list of spoils, which is a list of items paired with a drop rate, which is an integer between 1 and 10. Names are tracked as headings, descriptions are tracked as italics after the name, and the rest of the attributes are tracked as bullet points.

The Bestiary also contains a list of monsters in each wilds.

Amend the “List of Monster Types” section so that each monster’s section is formatted as such, using ASCII quotes instead of curly quotes:

===Bat===

‘’‘One of the most common creatures in the wilds. Since they are nocturnal, they prefer to sleep through the days, making them easy targets.’‘’

* Hit Points: 2
* Frequency: 9
* Ecology: All
* Spoils: Bat Wing (4), Bat Wing (4)

Give the following monsters the following descriptions:

  • Goblin:
    While they are not the most impressive prey, goblins are short and stupid, making them fairly easy to kill. If you can harvest their guts, you’re sure to get paid handsomely.
  • Wild Boar:
    While some doubt the wisdom of calling this thing a “monster”, it will charge at you and that, to a hunter, is enough reason to fight.
  • Shrieking Cockroach:
    For such a small creature, these annoying insects can really screech. This is both annoying for any living thing around it and useful if one is able to harvest it and attack others with it.
  • Man-Eating Worm:
    Some of the toughest monsters in the wild. Defeating one of these will most definitely earn an adventurer fame. Just be careful about the poision.
  • Squid Thingy:
    Just what… is this thing? Before it was encountered, no one knew these existed. And by all accounts, it shouldn’t. Caution is advised in dealing with these monsters.

If the Electric Mouse is in the list, set its description to:

The size of a housecat, these rodents are extremely excitable. They pulse with electricity every time they find something new. That includes Adventurers, in many cases. If you capture one, it becomes incredibly loyal.

Inspired by Regulating the Market, this proposal gives the opportunity for sweet flavor text and also makes the two documents of this game more uniform.

Descriptions are nice, but I prefer the table format for quick reference during Hunts.

I agree with Zaphod: the table is a better format. I have no problem adding a section with descriptions below it.

No vote yet.

I see where Zaphod and Derrick are coming from, and from that perspective, I agree. If the List of Monster Types gets any longer (and I guarantee it will), the table will pretty much be necessary.

However, I would also like to see some monsters with more unique mechanics (maybe have one that switches locations if it isn’t successfully killed, or another that does more damage to an Adventurer in that Wilds, etc.), and the format Trigon proposes is more friendly to such one-off mechanics. We can always add the table again later. for

Maybe we can keep the table for a quick reference, but also have descriptions listed separately?

But I warn enacting it will be a headache.
