Newbie

Hi there! I’ve just read about Nomic and I decided to join, I hope I’ll learn enough to be able to play with you :) So far I’ve read the rules but I’m still full of doubt :), for example, so far there is no way to win in this dinasty, am I correct? And when should I start my time to 7, next monday? When should I appear in the GNDT list?

I find this Nomic concept very funny :)

Done. GNDT password sent.

Also, 1) no, there is not a victory condition for this dynasty yet; 2) You can do it whenever you want so long as you don’t do it twice in one week.

Thanks! And if I understand well, this game is based in fair play, because if not the people could just vote against any DoV, no? I was thinking in showing this game to friends of mine but knowing them they would do just that to avoid anyone to win and the game would be neverending :)
(Or the Artisan could veto everything, or there could be many King Anthony’s Crown-like rules…)
I’m trying that GNDT in a second :)

@Alzhaid: Well, the DoV would still pass because of majority. Also, if the Artisan vetoes too much, then a CfJ will be made to remove him from power. CfJs can’t be vetoed.

One more thing: You’re not a native English speaker, are you? I can tell from the awkwardness of “thinking in showing” and “avoid anyone to win”.

One final thing: King Anthony’s Crown was added last dynasty, when individual players were given limited veto powers. Arthexis was vetoing everything he could, so the rule was added.

Thanks for the answers. My friends have a tendency to break every game by finding legal tweaks in the rules, and I was curious if this kind of game could be nice for them. I think if I try to play with them we would end with many legal King Anthony’s rules…

About my english, you are right. It’s nice that you pointed that out, may I ask how should I said “thinking in showing” and “avoid anyone to win”? :)

About emoticons, I’m very used to use them and I’ll keep doing it unless it’s somehow forbidden or everybody here hate them. According to wikipedia “The use of emoticons can be traced back to the nineteenth century and were commonly used in casual/humorous writing”. Why do you dislike them so much?

@Your Friends: Yeah, nomic is (usually) for rules lawyers. However, scamming based on the core rules is disliked - try to convince them to find loopholes in the dynastic rules instead.

@English: Generally, “thinking in” means actually literally “thinking in” something, e.g. thinking in a house literally means you’re thinking, inside a house. “Thinking of” is the less awkward way to do it; in “avoid anyone {verb}” the verb is usually the gerund, thus “avoid anyone winning”. (Luckily, you’re still understandable, if you propose something with grammatical mistakes, then the Admins can fix it once it gets into the ruleset.)

@Emoticons: I don’t dislike them, it’s just that you used them so much. Also, I was trying to advertise the IRC channel.

In IRC, Ienpw III just pointed out that my explanation of English was probably not very understandable, so I’ll rephrase with not quite as much generality:
Think: “Thinking of showing”.
Avoid: “Avoid anyone winning”.

*wanders in with a rather off topic q* anyone else think the symbol in the for icon is about to do a cartwheel? *shrugs and wanders off*

Thanks for the answers! I was checking google and I realized just before I’ve read you that those were the mistakes (“think in” and “avoid to”). Looks like it’s a long time since I check an english book or someone takes his time to correct me. Please keep doing it as long as you feel like :) <—uops!

By the way, in the ruleset there is an “Actication Sequences” typo in the Expand Workbench spell.

One last doubt, the rules talk about “the start of the workbench”, is this the leftmost rune? Reading the last two manipulations in the GNDT I don’t understand it well:
Bucky TOARPTO -> STOARPTO (adds one at the left, but a rune doesn’t disappear from the right)
Hix RSTOOAXA -> STOOAXAP (adds one at the right and another disappears from the left)

Hix:

I fixed the typo in the Ruleset (admins can do that); thanks for finding it.

I think you also caught a mistake by Bucky.  Bucky manipulated to add “S” to the left, but should have removed the “O” from the right.

As for my workbench, I started with STOOAXAP, and manipulated by putting “R” on the left, and removing “P” on the right.  So the GNDT log says “Hix’s Workbench = RSTOOAXA (was STOOAXAP)”

And Bucky… well, Bucky probably just forgot to remove a rune.
