Proposal: No “I” in Team

Add a second paragraph to the rule “The Ball”:-

Some Players may be Assisting, and by default are not Assisting: Assisting Players are tracked in the GNDT field “Ball”, with a single “:”. When a Player gains the Ball, they cease to be Assisting, if they were Assisting.

To the rule “Kicking the Ball”, add:-

When a Player Kicks the Ball, they may update the GNDT to make themselves Assisting, when transferring its ownership.

To the rule “Ball In and Out of Play”, add:-

When the Ball becomes Out of Play, all Assisting Players cease to be Assisting.

Though I guess if a Player kicks the ball to themselves, they would be allowed to make themselves Assisting and have the ball simultaneously.

The rules don’t seem to forbid doing that on purpose, and it might happen randomly if the kicking player and the target player have the same position.

Hm. Does transferring the Ball from oneself to oneself mean that oneself ever loses possession of the Ball, or gains it?

for I would assume that a Kick is a two-step process:

1) The player Kicks the ball, possibly becoming Assisting
2) Some player receives the ball, losing ‘Assisting’ if they were Assisting

This is not the only way of interpreting the rules, but I like this method of Kicking because it means Kicks work the way we expected them to. If this passes we might want to make a CfJ clarifying this.
