Proposal: Pax Tognolus

Change the effect of the Tognoli mask to

Tognoli scores 3/7 additional points every time they score a trick. (Scores of wearers of Tognoli can be rational numbers.)

For any Player whose EVC on this Proposal contains the text “show me the ravioli”, change their mask to Tognoli.

Nobody’s used it maybe because it’s really swingy, mostly applying to tricks that are luck-dependent to get that are randomly present.

Hrmmm you’d need 9 tricks for this to catch up to Pedrolino.

Someone should crunch the numbers and see on average how many tricks get scored per game. Its probably about balanced, though I am worried that its a bit more swingy (you could wind up in a game with L’Ossa and Star in the grand canal, or wind up in a low scoring game where it won’t do much)

Overall its probably fine.

oh. you changed it to 3/7. I’d move it back to 1/3. 3/7 seems a bit too strong in my mind.

More importantly, I changed “gimme the ravioli” to “show me the ravioli”. (This is not an EVC.)

1/3 feels too weak, 1/2 too strong, and 3/7 means you break even with one trick per card. Feels OK to me. Maybe what we should really do is get rid of Tognoli and Di Paolo.

Rider could have ill effects on game 32, allowing its players to switch mask mid-game

i think in almost all my games I score more than 7 tricks

I’d probably vote for this at 1/3. But against at 3/7

Outside the window, I think 3/7 is too strong. And importantly, unlike other “good” masks like Arlecchino or Pantalone, which open up new gameplay strategies, or stuff like Centofanti that changes the game in an interesting way… this just feels like Pedrolino with more variance.

lets just axe Tognoli, Di Paolo and maybe Reali (though I think Reali has promise, it just needs a buff. Maybe merge Reali and Tongoli into “You may score Parte tricks even if they are not active”?)

What’s a rational number?

Also, assuming it’s meaningful: what happens if someone is wearing Tognoli, gets a “rational number” score, and then takes off Tognoli?

A rational number is a quotient of two integers. I don’t think any mask can currently be “taken off” within the scope of a game? (Except game 32, but that’s an egg I’m willing to break.) And if it could, it would end up rounding down the number and losing the erstwhile-Tognoli some fractional points, so why do it.

I’m sorry, but I’m super not mathsy - what is a “quotient of two integers”? Please explain like I am five.

A fraction—in this case, break a point into seven pieces; when you score with Tognoli you get three of those. Meaning three of those pieces won’t do to give you more points than someone with one point, but nine will, because you can take seven of those nine pieces and turn them into one full point and have two left over.
