Proposal: Plaza Puppet Performance

Withdrawn. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 15 Nov 2022 11:37:32 UTC

Add the following text to the subrule “Plaza” in the rule “Attraction List”

The Puppet Show is a Queue. Its Front Effect is “Admit all: Gain 1 Puppet Prize item if the Turn ends in the month of November UTC time. Move the Visitor to the Plaza.”

Add the following subrule titled “Puppet Prize” to the rule “Money and Items”

The park does not allow Puppet Prizes to leave the Plaza. Any Visitor who walks to or rushes any Attraction or Queue that is not the Plaza loses their Puppet Prize if they have one.

A Puppet Prize may not be passed to other Visitors. It may also not be placed in any containers or storage defined by the rules.

Add the following subrule titled “Puppet Prize” to the rule “Stamps”

During Advance the Queues on any Turn ending after December 15th, any Visitors who are carrying a Puppet Prize get a P stamp if they don’t already have one.

“Attraction or Queue” is redundant because all Queues are Attractions.

I’m not thrilled about defining a Stamp intended to become permanently unavailable to late-joining visitors.

From the state of play at the Information Center right now, with seven players still unwilling to perform even the smallest initial game move of making up some names, a limited-time-offer Stamp seems like a good idea to encourage some activity.

The intention is exactly what Bucky and Kevan are pointing out: encouraging activity by creating a limited-time offer.

What I will say to Bucky’s concern about missing out on stamps is that we don’t even know yet whether a Victory will require collecting every possible stamp. It may be the case that missing out on a stamp has no bearing on Victory. It may even be that stamps have nothing to do with Victory at all.

Still, I’m willing to entertain a “catch-up” possibility for late-joining Visitors by making the Puppet Show recurring. I still think it should be a limited time window, but if it has the possibility of coming back around, that allows late-joining Visitors to still get the benefits, while also continuing to encourage activity.

Thoughts?

I think if the goal is to encourage activity, locking them in the Plaza for two weeks is actively counterproductive.

Ok, so maybe the simpler solution is to make the Puppet Show award the stamp directly, and have the Puppet Show be a limited-time Attraction that repeats every so often.

Would a weekly show that repeats monthly be reasonable? Something like “the 20th - 27th of every month”?

Dynasties generally only last for around a month, so we’re unlikely to still be at the carnival in late December.

Bucky makes a good point about the Plaza lock being a big downside. I’d be fine with a straightforward “if it’s November, get a Stamp” attraction, as a person who intends to play the game of BlogNomic during November.

Also, “all” is not a positive integer and thus not a valid Admit number, but the Front Effect could easily be rewritten to just affect everyone present instead of using an Admit. This is arguably a grammar error.

Fair enough on the month comment. Bucky, if the non-participating folks have the rest of November to get their act in gear or miss out on a stamp, is that OK with you?

If I’m going to re-propose this, I’d rather have a good chance of seeing it pass, so I want to check for any remaining objections first.

I think the only benefit this has over the Z stamp post-Activity Flag Zed is that nobody has it yet.

True. We’re assuming that Activity Flag Zed will be enacted, which it looks like it probably will unless there’s an unusual amount of last-minute Against votes. Maybe I’ll just wait and see what happens with that one
