Proposal: Praise RNGesus

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Add to the ruleset a rule called “Religion” with the following:

A Resident may, instead of rolling a DICEX in the GNDT (where X is some integer), use a value of their choice among the possible rollable values of that DICEX to count as the rolled value, if they pay 3 Health to do so, as they perform an eldritch ritual. This payment is a “Ritual Payment”.

there are some cool things that could happen as a result of this, so for now, i’m on board.

Has some interesting implications. I’m not 100% sure that it jives with the theme but that’s minor.

Always nice to see a workaround for dice, but the Zealous Stance makes this too cheap, and it’s potentially unlimited in use if your accomplice isn’t carrying anything and doesn’t mind dying.

@Kevan: The same “self-sacrifice” issue happens if someone doesn’t mind not having anything/losing and just concedes all of their stuff to another player via Trusting.

Or someone just insists on getting all of the Kindles and just boosts another player, as self-sacrifice.

It’s a problem that will happen in any game we make with player interaction. (I’ve deliberately occupied the design space for transfers via Trusting to make these tactics harder to pull off because they’re annoying at times, but I don’t think we can hold it back entirely without having a game with no interpersonal interaction, really.)

interplayer interaction*, rather

Yes, that’s a thing, and it’s always worth factoring in when writing a rule.

But this thing allows any player to fix an unlimited number of die rolls, with no loss or sacrifice at all from their accomplice - just a “here is my corpse and it vanishes immediately” blog post every three rolls. They’d even thank you for it if they started below 8HP.

Running out of time so I just removed Zealous for now, to propose in the future sometime. Maybe have it so that you can’t kill yourself with it? I dunno. We can see later.

I’d much rather keep some of the random element preserved.
What about paying health to add to the value of a die roll and refactoring dice to be more favorable the higher the number? Or if you can’t stand the random element, paying health equal to the die roll and refactoring the dice.

i prefer some randomness but that can be modified back in. Adding an upper limit to the number of sides on the dice you can ‘fix’ would be my ideal solution.
