Proposal: Rebooting the Bot

Reword the front effect of the Robot Race to:-

Admit 1: This Visitor becomes the Robot Operator (unless the Visitor’s name is Bucky Bot), and this Visitor’s Group becomes the sole controller of the Visitor whose name is “Bucky Bot”.

Reword “Reward by Proxy” to:-

One Visitor is the Robot Operator: their identity is publicly tracked.

When the Visitor named “Bucky Bot” earns a stamp associated with a letter that it did not already have a stamp for, the Robot Operator is awarded the “R” Stamp.

Set the Robot Operator to be the Visitor who was most recently admitted to the Robot Race, and assign control of the Visitor named Bucky Bot to whichever Group the Robot Operator belongs to.

Repeal the rule “The Robot”.

Making the Robot just a regular Visitor who moves between Groups probably works, doesn’t it? (And making Robot Operator a Visitor, rather than a Group where we also care about a particular Visitor in that group.)

[Bucky] I’m trying to resolve the confusion over whether other players can move Bucky Bot out of the bathroom, and similar actions. Is there a way in which this refactoring doesn’t work? Or were you hoping for a fix that ruled in the other direction, that only the Proprietor can move the Bot out of the bathroom?

[Kevan] Is there confusion? I think the phrase “as though they controlled the Robot” is sufficient to meet the requirement of the bathroom’s statement “No Visitor can be removed from the Bathroom except by the Group that controls them”. It says nothing about whether the Visitor belongs or doesn’t belong to the group, just the word “controls”, which ties this together as an allowed action, IMHO.

[Jonathan] In a comment on It’s No Picnic Bucky talks about the interpretation that “the Robot Operator doesn’t control the Robot” during a Bathroom evacuation - perhaps as their own view, perhaps as a view that they maybe have a reason to believe that another player holds. And they might even consider this a big enough problem to be voting down It’s No Picnic for making the problem worse, so I thought I’d try to address it.

But I agree with you that the current wording for Bot control seems fine. And this proposal endorses that by having the Bot 100% controlled by the player.
