Proposal: Recrystallization

Timed out and enacted, 3-2. Josh

Adminned at 17 Dec 2024 10:46:32 UTC

Add the following Items to the list in “Items”:

* Crystal of Avarice: steal an Item from the Items of a Snail on the Track.
* Crystal of Plenty: gain three additional copies of a non-Crystal Item in your Items.

Replace the description of the Crystal of Moderateness with “Remove all Items from the Snail(s) who have the most Items, then remove all Crystals of Moderateness from your Items. (Passive effect: you may not Discard any other type of Item)”.

Replace the description of the Discard Move with “remove one Item from your Items and apply its non-Passive effects”.

Add the following paragraph before the last paragraph in “Items”:

If it has been less than 24 hours since the most recent Race started, no Snail may Discard any non-Crystal Items.

Trying this again!

against I still just don’t like the wombo-combo of the Crystals. I know that with three active players we’re unlikely to get into pooling territory, but as there’s no limit on the number of Items that can be held, two players can use Crystals of avarice and Plenty to generate huge numbers of Fleshy Shell Wraps…

I think in general, item combos just feel like an unfun design space to me.

They would likely die if they generated huge numbers of Flashy Shell Wraps, since doing so would need Plays to discard the crystals and Plays would cause them to have to spot danger. Not to mention in a world where Medals is the victory condition spending 5+ Plays to tank your placement and make more Flashy Shell Wraps seems silly. Long combos are balanced out by the Plays requirement

Not to mention some person can just use a crystal of moderateness to mess up anyone who wants to get 50 million items! Of course it isn’t bulletproof since the two can coordinate to speed along to the finish line together after doing their combo, but I think the optimal strategy in a group of two is not nearly as boring as you make it out to be

I’m with Habanero. I think there’s more subtlety to using these items than he’s being given credit for. I suppose we’ll leave it to the new folks to see what they think.

for I think this is more nuanced than it seems.
