Proposal: Red-Space

2-4. Timed out.—Chronos

Adminned at 12 Jul 2006 06:05:27 UTC

I propose that in the ruleset, we replace all italicized with red italicized text. red italicized text looks like this.  In addition, replace all instances of “Italicized” in the ruleset with “Red Italicized” .  Should a later blognomic ever require red text for the main page, “Red italicized” could simply be changed to “blue italicized”.  If this proposal passes, the arbiter may choose a color other than red if preferred.

As a side note, this proposal fails if I-Space passes.

Not a poor idea, and I understand the psychological reasons for putting commentary text in red, but I hope that Hix will pick a different color if this should pass.

Tentative for.

against I sense boring <font color=#110000> type scams.

How do you put red text in the wiki?

the funny thing is we’d probably catch #110000 type scams on the front page, they’d be blackish text as opposed to the light blue.

Well, #998888, then, the scammer wouldn’t mind if we didn’t realise until after it was enacted.

Maybe square brackets around (optionally italicised) example text would be a safer way to go.

square brackets would be fine to me.  I’d vote for that.

Square brakets render to external links in the wiki syntax

Choronos: we’re talking post rendering ;P

actual square brackets are bad.  because variables use [x]/[y]/[z] in the rules, and timeline tags are square.  I really don’t think 998888 would be red enough to be considered “red” as my example text showed.  I think that we could just have admins judge redness, it’s better than having them judge italics at least, because then we’d know players were TRYING to break rules.

I’d go for a wording of “any paragraph that begins and ends with square brackets”, or something. (I did consider “any paragraph entirely in italics”, but it leaves shifty “one non-italic word making the whole rule legally binding” loopholes.)

Admins judging redness isn’t great, as it means any admin could build and exploit their own scam.

The fact that this proposal leaves us debating the deeper meaning of “redness” seems like ample reason not to enact it.
