Times out 4-1 and is enacted -SingularByte

In the subrule “Health of the King”, replace the text “If the Old King is Ill, as a Daily Communal Action, any Heir or the Old King should” with this text:

When an Heir or the Old King performs the Check Health action, they check if the Old King is Ill, and if so, they

In the subrule “Assassination”, replace the text “As a Daily Communal Action, a Heir or the Old King should Update Stress. When an Heir Updates Stress” with this text:

When an Heir or the Old King performs the Update Stress action

Add a new rule named “Royal Obligations” with the following text:

As a Daily Communal Action, any Heir or the Old King should perform the Royal Obligations action, which is an atomic action with the following steps:
* Perform the Update Stress action
* Perform the Check Health action

Synchronizing the current Daily Communal Actions to encourage them to be done at the same time, and also increase the likelihood that they will be done at all due to self-interest in at least one of them.

upkeep should be easy. this makes upkeep harder because you have to do it all at once which will probably result in it being done less because people don’t want to do everything

will definitely be red ticking this if it doesn’t change after it leaves the edit window.

[Clucky] There’ll be some friction where some players want to Update Stress but not Check Health, while others want to Check Health but not Update Stress, but that seems like an interesting pressure, and unlikely to be a completely symmetrical one.

Well stated and exactly my thinking.

If this is truly a barrier that stops all such upkeep actions over several days, I’d consider removing it, but I don’t think that will be the case. Let’s try it out at least and observe what happens.

for the reasons as already stated. I feel like Kevan honestly makes my argument even better than I did: some players want to Update Stress but not Check Health, while others want to Check Health but not Update Stress

So now instead of both of those getting done (as the players who want to Update Stress can update Stress and the players who want to Check Health can Check Health), neither will be

In that situation, even where the summed outcome of the Stress+Health action is objectively detrimental to both groups, the game is complex enough that the impact isn’t going to be perfectly balanced between those sides. If it’s effectively a button labelled “when you press this, Team A lose 8 points and Team B lose 9 points”, neither team will enjoy losing the points, but in a two-team game, Team A still have a reason to hit it.

There’s some fog in a complex game where both teams might erroneously assume that they are worse off from the button being hit, but that seems like an interesting situation to navigate. That if two players are hesitating over hitting the button because they both think they’d be worse off from it, that tells them one of them is wrong.
