“The discord server linked to on the sidebar is considered to be gamestate, and as much may not be changed” causes some problems. For example - to allow Clucky to post this I had to toggle an “enable server widget” button in the settings - if this passed I don’t think I’d be able to without a proposal authorising me to do so.

It takes a lot of time and CPU to load.

(It’s also an expansive definition of what “gamestate” is)

i’ll reword that Josh. the intent was not that the entire discord server is gamestate, just the link is gamestate (so you can’t change the link to a different server and claim that is now the blognomic discord)

the widget is the only offially supported way I can find for getting a permanent link to the discord. If there is a way to just get a logo/link I’m happy with that maybe I’m just being dumb and can’t find it.

hrm I guess the slack link is also just an image we’re hosting so doing the same thing for discord isn’t the end of the world

Although the Slack definition also uses the “while logged in” text, the current blog template displays (and presumably works) whether or not the user is actually logged in. Is there any harm in allowing interested lurkers to join the Discord, or is it important for Discord invite links to be kept semi-private?

sure I just copied the slack wording I think its fine and even good to be like “join the discord if you wanna learn more about blognomic

I agree, but as we already have a rule talking about the Discord I think getting the definition of the discord up in a nice easy, lightweight proposal is best.

Then we can a larger proposal and discussion about maybe removing the slack.
