Proposal: Secure Beneath The Watchful Eyes

Add a new dynastic rule, called Imperator Pick:

As a Lacunaic Action, the Imperator may make a single post in the Story Posts category whose title contains the phrase ‘Imperator Pick’ and whose body contains the name of a single Nomicer and no other content. That Nomicer has achieved Victory.

When making an Imperator Pick, the Imperator is encouraged but not required to consider who they think deserves to win the dynasty on the basis of merit.

The Imperator must, in the comments to the Imperator Pick post, disclose the fact and content of any private communications they have received from active or idle Nomicers since the proposal that instituted this rule was posted, with the sole exception of communications from the Nomicer called SingularByte that relate entirely to the game of Diplomacy that they are playing unrelated to BlogNomic.

In this game about equity, randomness has not served us well.

Aren’t there a number of idle nomicers in Diplomacy? Snisbo, VotableCatter, bais, etc? This risks spilling the strategies of multiple countries in Diplomacy unless I’m missing something.

Ugh. Yes. I suppose I can get by with not talking to them for two days. Next adjudication is still a while off.

against With a Wildcard Emperor, I think this is too likely to produce a biased result – the Emperor could easily go Adversary to produce a result that had nothing to do with the gameplay, or Dungeonmaster to actively discriminate against the players doing well.

Snibo was recently in discussion in the server so would that have counted?

against but I’d be willing to vote on an equivalent proposal where Josh either names and justifies his choice in advance, or lays out all the factors he’s considering and how they’d be weighted, without revealing the winner’s actual name until after the vote.

I think I’d be adverse to creating a situation where the outcome could be contested but I can say that I would genuinely try to fairly reflect who I thought was the merit best player of the dynasty. That would take in, although not exclusively: use of proposals and votes to secure self-interested positions, a subjective assessment of tactical choices made in action performance, and any apparent substantive progress made towards either pooling or scamming around conventional play. I do think I know who wins on those measures but I haven’t completed the exercise.

As Kevan said in my CFJ, any victory proposal should also probably remove DoV lockouts on the winner – otherwise you might give someone victory that they can’t legally declare.

My comment on your CfJ remains my position on this, regardless of who it applies to - the DoV lockout exists, it is a rule, we have had the opportunity to repeal it and haven’t taken it, and as Emperor I don’t see a good reason to try to circumvent it.

Not long to go now, though, in any case.

against I’m not keen on ending it like this, and there’s too much risk of it messing up an unrelated game.

Only the revise votes cast at the time of the proposer arrow-withdrawing count towards a revise-withdraw, so the CoVs to revise are moot. I had just woken up so I just missed it was already withdrawn.
