Proposal: Sidereal Drift

Reached quorum 6 votes to 3 with all players voting. Enacted by Kevan.

In “Wizards”, replace “Each Wizard has a publicly tracked non-negative integer number of Stars, which defaults to twenty or the lowest number of Stars held by any Wizard, whichever is higher.” with:-

Each Wizard has a publicly tracked non-negative integer number of Stars, which defaults to the Lode of all other Wizards.

The Lode of a specified group of Wizards is a number equal to the total number of their Stars, divided by the number of Wizards in that group.

When a Wizard (the “Returner”) is unidled having been previously non-idle in the dynasty, the Lode of all other Wizards is compared what the Lode of all Wizards was at the point immediately after the Returner last went idle: if the first Lode is higher, the Returner’s Stars are increased by the difference between those values; if the Lode is lower, the Returner’s Stars are decreased by the difference.

Changing the new player Star default to always the average (since numbers seem to be tending towards zero), and saying that an unidling Wizard has their Stars adjusted to match how the overall Star count has changed since they left.

Soft against

I currently like the fact that right now you all need to change your destructive ways in terms of star count or run the risk of new players actually being very close to the lead

I also think the whole “what the load was when they last went idle” is going to be a pain to track down

against Seems like a pain to track, and also I like the incentive to try to trend back upwards

It feels pretty discouraging to me that of the eight current players right now, seven of them would have more Stars if they had instead taken a week off and only joined the dynasty for the first time today. And that the safest way for Vovix to maintain their lead now may be to idle out for a while while the rest of us keep Doom Clouding each other.

I don’t think we’re going to get to a utopia of Gifting and Gathering everyone up above 20 Stars just to address the potential bogeyman of a late-unidling player. (And we could get there more directly with a side proposal of “everyone gains 10 Stars” anyway.)

Tracking down and calculating past Lodes is easy enough, it’s just a matter of looking at the relevant page version in the gamestate history - all idlings have been flagged in the edit summary so far.

I’m having trouble wrapping my mind around the actual implications of the last paragraph but what you’re saying sounds fair, so CoV again.  for

Well, maybe y’all should stop Doom Clouding each other…

Yeah when I did my soft against I wasn’t considering that stars only change per duel so its not that hard to track down what the load was when they went idle

One concern I have is that right now Stars aren’t specifically “victory points”, more just an undefined generic resource. If there’s a way to spend stars on something other than WMDs (whenever I find the time to write up that proposal), then a new joiner is back to being behind, as everyone who spent stars would potentially be sitting on other resources and wearing extra fancy hats, but have a low star balance, and the new joiner will just have the low stars but no fancy hat.

I unidle. Quorum rises to 6. Don’t expect any gameplay for a bit.
