Proposal: Signal, Noise

Withdrawn. Josh

Adminned at 31 Dec 2022 16:06:30 UTC

If the explorer called Josh is not Possessed by Katastrophe, make them Possessed by Katastrophe and make any other explorer who is Possessed by Katastrophe not Possessed by Katastrophe; the rest of this proposal then has no effect.

If the explorer called Josh is Possessed by Katastrophe, make them not Possessed by Katastrophe, and move the Black Cat to a random room that contains exactly one Explorer.

Why do I want to vote for this?

@TDS Only you can judge that, based on your position.

This could result in you knowing exactly where Katastrophe is; or it could result in the role being taken away from someone misusing it… I’ll let everyone figure the parameters out for themselves.

against  It would be a little odd to just give you power like this. Not only have you had the same chances to become possessed as most other players, but I notice you’re in an isolated corner away from everyone so you could easily load yourself up with a ton of useful loot (such as getting every Advantage in the game to negate most malfeasances against you) with no need for stealth since everyone would already know your role.

Not to mention, the recent items seem to be plentiful and scattered throughout the map, so I’m not sure where the misuse angle would come from? I’m seeing 6(?) new items.

@SB Or take it away; unless you have reason to know that I’m not Katastrophe already? 🤗

against Large parts of this proposal do nothing since the enacting admin can’t change variables that are privately tracked by the Narrator.

@Josh If it was going to take it away from you, the whole proposal would be moot - either you would want rid of the power so you would just run the cat into someone on purpose anyway, or you wouldn’t want rid of the power in which case you’d have no reason to make the proposal in the first place (or could just withdraw it the moment it might pass, if the whole thing is an elaborate bluff).

@Bucky Tracking variables is not the same as changing them.

The admin won’t even know which branch to carry out!

@Bucky They really don’t need to! The gamestate would update by the enactment of this proposal, and the emperor would simply be able to update tracking to reflect it.

Anyway this gambit has sadly not worked (the hope was that the actual Katastrophe would be an obvious, sole against vote) so withdrawn against

What part of “the Admin Enacting it shall update the Gamestate and Ruleset, and correct any gamestate-tracking entities, as specified in the Proposal” allows the enacting admin to delegate?

Josh: Mastermind he/they

“If the Admin enacting a Votable Matter reaches a step which cannot be applied immediately [...] that step is ignored for the purposes of enactment.”

Bucky:

In other words, yes, the proposal does nothing because the entire thing is ignored.

@Bucky No, because the gamestate being updated and *tracking* being updated are separate events, one of which happens automatically by the enactment of the proposal, the other of which is a discrete event carried out by the enacting admin.

“When a Proposal is Enacted, its stated effects are immediately applied in full; the Admin Enacting it shall update the Gamestate and Ruleset, and correct any gamestate-tracking entities, as specified in the Proposal.”

I wonder if messaging the Narrator counts as “correcting any gamestate-tracking entities”, given that a person is a kind of entity.
