Proposal: Still the Only Place to Get a Good Steak

Add a subrule of “Levels of Reality” called “Places”:-

The following Places are defined, each only existing in the Levels indicated in brackets (where “X-Y” means all Levels between X and Y inclusive):-

* Tenement (1)
* Automat (1-2)
* Plaza (1-3)
* Crater (2)
* Laboratory (2-3)
* Refinery (3)

Each Mindjacker has a publicly-tracked Location, being a Place which defaults to Tenement. A Mindjacker may change their own Location as a daily action, to any Place that exists in their current Level.

When a Mindjacker Ascends or Descends, if their Location is not a Place that exists in their new Level, then their Location is changed to a random Place that does.

In “Avatars”, replace “a unique Name, a home Tier” with:-

a unique Name, a Location (being a Place), a home Tier

In “Yanking”, replace “whose occupancy Tier is exactly the author’s Level” with:-

whose occupancy Tier is exactly the author’s Level and whose Location is the same as the author’s Location

To “Avatars”, add a paragraph:-

If no Mindjackings have occurred in the past 24 hours, the Ascendant may change the Location of each Avatar, to any Place that exists in that Avatar’s current occupancy Tier.

Some superficial reality in which to hunt for Avatars.

The default location only exists at tier 1, which is a problem for someone who gets their location defaulted while at a higher tier.

Not much of a problem, I think? It’s a valid value to hold, you just can’t move to it. And if anyone does manage to reach Level 2 before this enacts and pops them in a non-existent Tenement, they can walk out to any other Place from there.

I worry that this proposal seems to have the main purpose of making ascension more difficult.

“ then their Location is changed to a random Place that does.” What if there is no such place?

against i don’t hate the concept, but this particular implementation bugs me. the way that location list is organised is confusing to my eyes, and i have a feeling that you’ll be significantly better at reading and making sense of it than i will if it’s enacted. doubly so once we start adding lots more locations to the list!

against I would rather hold off on a mechanic like this one

[Lemon] No objections to formatting the list in other ways! Would be happy to see a visual map or something embedded in the ruleset instead, whatever makes sense.

@Kevan a table or visual map /would/ be preferable imo, so if this passes, i’ll propose an amendment accordingly! but i’m not gonna change my vote, because i’m still lukewarm on the idea. i think this is too fine-grained in its level of detail.
