Proposal: Switching It Up

Self-Killed. Failed by card.

Adminned at 22 Mar 2017 01:53:11 UTC

Add a new rule “Deferential” with the following text

If a proposal is between 24 and 47 hours and 59 minutes old, inclusive, and if the Statolith does not have a valid vote on the proposal, then votes of deferential instead are valid and counted as the majority of valid non-deferential votes on said proposal.

Maybe the arrow icon would be better, since this changes things quite a bit.

Is this dynastic or basic rule set?

New rule so dynastic

against This would create some odd situations - a proposal introducing hard work for the Emperor might get a quorum of polite DEFs, and then enact anyway at 24:01 (because it has the proposer’s vote in favour and none against). And a genuinely divisive proposal could be resolved with a small majority in 24 hours, without giving more time for discussion - there’s certainly some history of Emperors holding back on a DEF-stacked deciding vote to hear more arguments first.

Making a vote of “DEF” mean “deferring to the Emperor or to a majority depending on when the Emperor votes” feels like an unnecessarily complex decision for voters (and to some extent the Emperor).

I agree with Kevan there. Generally (not always, but generally), any rule that targets Core Rule content is dangerous af.

against Is Emperor the “original” title for the statolith then?

[derrick] I don’t remember if we’ve ever actually had an Emperor here at BlogNomic, but it’s the generic dynasty-agnostic name for the role, presumably taken from Imperial Nomic.

I guess an arrow or some sort of unique phrase would be better.
