Proposal: Teach a Man Not to Fish

Reached quorum 6 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 20 Feb 2018 08:59:53 UTC

Repeal the rule “Fishing”.

If Cuddlebeam has more than one pending proposal, fail the oldest one of them.

Cuddlebeam spammed some comments a few minutes before I was able to enact the previous proposal, explaining they were “curious to see what happens, its minor”. It resulted in the Fishing rule being added to the ruleset, even though only two players were in favour of it.

Here’s the cleanup proposal to remove that rule, with a clause to make it take up one of Cuddlebeam’s proposal slots.

for  I’ll see about cleaning up the system, and propose it by itself later, I think.

I’m also not exactly sure how to format the post, is there a way to look at the html tags on the ruleset?

[Mortal] Click “View source” at the top of the page to see the wiki source. It’s wiki markup rather than HTML, and it’s mostly just about apostrophes (for bold/italics) and asterisks (for bullets), eg.:

A Votable Matter is '''Unpopular''' if any of the following are true:
* The number of Residents who are not voting AGAINST it is less than Quorum.
* It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours is not Popular.

If you are planning to repropose a version of this, note that we’ve had some past discussions about avoiding actions which can change Alertness or Health at any time. This dynasty is (unusually) operating on a strict turn-based system, to avoid the “I saw it first” or “I stayed awake to midnight” timing issues that we often run into at BlogNomic.

If players are given a mechanic that lets them boost their Alertness at any time, then timing issues creep back in. If you’re in second place to pick and see a Crate drop with something really good in it, you might be able to quickly exercise a free-boost mechanic to get yourself into first place. Which takes us back to a game of “who saw the blog post first”.

We’ve generally been trying to keep all game actions as Cractions, instead.
