Proposal: Temperature

Vetoed. Josh

Add the following action to the list of actions Islands may take (after “Selectively carry out some, all or none of this list of Overground Actions, no more than once each per turn, in any order”:)

- Temperate: Each island as “temperature” which defaults to 50. On their turn, they may increase it by 10 or decrease it by 10 as one of the Overground Actions.

Any island with higher than 70 temperature is immune to effects of snow, and any island with lower than 30 temperature is immune to drought.

The idea is OK, but I’m very mildly worried about having the rule introducing the temperature and allowing other islands increase / decrease it *inside* the Overground Action.  Not sure if that’s clear.  I mean, the spirit of the rule is clear, just not sure if the letter matches..  also not sure if it’s a big enough problem to warrant an against vote..

against This does seem unclear (where is the “Any island with higher than” paragraph being added - is it ending the atomic action and starting a new paragraph?), and I think we’ve probably got enough Island variables going already.

This also puts no DELAY on the new action, which means I should delay taking my turn until it’s enacted, and players who’ve already taken a Round 3 turn are going to be a round late on hitting a 70/30 temperature.

The point about delay is a good one. against cov

against CoV because of delay, and I agree we have enough variables

Actually,  veto as this proposal doesn’t take into account New Tok. If that passes then, at best, this immediately gets erased at the start of round 4. At worst, this creates an ugly and confusing scenario where “the list of actions Islands may take” is in several different spots in the ruleset and enactment becomes a nightmare.
