Seems like a good point in the dynasty to take a temperature check, two and a half weeks in. (Dynasties tend to last about a month.)

How are people finding the dynasty so far - what’s working, and what isn’t? Is it about time someone pitched a victory condition?

And why are so many players holding back from proposing? (Only four of the game’s fifteen players have made proposals in the last week.) Are the round-respecting Day Clauses bringing too much complexity into making simple changes? Are we lapsing into unamended boardgame mode? Or something else?

Initially I found this imperial quasi-veto to be demoralising to my desire to participate in game design; by the time that wore off a combination of not having a firm grasp on the ruleset and long turns made it hard to get re-motivated.

Saying it out loud, I should probably idle.

Quorum drops to 7.

(The fact that I’m losing by miles also obviously doesn’t help.)

Open-sourcing my spreadsheet, which should be open to edits; tidying up the list of dishes and pasting them into the table will update the checklist on tab 2, which will show the frequency with which certain combos are selected. Please do let me know if it’s useful!

I’ve already been drafting a win condition proposal, but I wanted to hold on to it until at least this Night was done. I’ll wait and see how others feel about whether or not it’s too soon.

[Josh] Sorry to lose you on this one! Appreciate you’re not a fan of one-big-processing-action gameplay, but I was hoping the dynasty might have found something that combined it with the free public Closed actions, where if multiple people wanted to tactically delay their action, they’d be forced to negotiate some informal deal on who went first. But it’s hard to tell whether any of that has been happening.

On my end its hard not to interpret the slow down on proposals and the delay between Nights as a lack of enthusiasm in other players so it has a chilling effect for me.

Quorum should be (14/2)+1 = 8

Honestly, mostly life busyness, I think it’s a solid core loop and I’m happy to keep playing and propose stuff when I have spoons. I don’t think we’re at boardgame mode yet, this just feels like an extended “early game” period due to the rounds being fairly long. A victory condition might lock us more into a fixed path, though I personally prefer to define a win condition early and then grow the ruleset around it.

The structure of the ruleset definitely adds some mental overhead to proposals in my opinion, though it’s probably still easier than *not* having that structure.

I found the turn structure easier to follow because the Yard does most of the processing. Dynasties with a lot of actions outside of proposals/posts can sometimes be hard to participate in for me, as I prefer to peek in about twice per day at most.

I would have liked this setup more if I could fire and forget my menu and just have a window to change it, instead of having to remember to send it or having to wait for others if I did send it early. However, this could still be fixable with proposals.

Finally, I don’t see a clear game end yet save for the more boring “big cash wins” or sudden scam.

I’ve just been pretty busy. I’m enjoying this dynasty.

I’m definitely finding this to be one of the best dynasties I’ve participated in.

As for proposing, I have no idea how the more active players are able to maintain a so frequent proposal rate. I’m so slow that I often don’t manage to get a proposal ready before the issue is already no longer relevant

Some version of “big cash wins” seems fine as a victory condition, really; it’s been the payout for playing the menu game well, and we avoided making it the currency for buying Fitting upgrades, so it feels a lot like victory points. The longer we go on and the further ahead the lead some players get, though, the harder it’s going to be to convince a full quorum that it’s in their interests to vote for a “cash wins” victory condition.

[Desertfrog] I can’t speak for others, but for the weightier fixes or additions I’ll sometimes work on a draft in the background, and just check before I finally post it that it takes into account anything that’s changed (or is pending in the queue) since I started. Proposals don’t have to be weighty, though - even changing a single number can alter the course of the game.

I’ve been having a lot of fun playing so far! I just don’t have any good ideas for changes, so I haven’t been proposing.

slow pace of play is getting to me. also feel like there is an unfortunate gulf between the strategically optimal way to play the game and the fun way to play the game. (as the strategically optimal way is basically just to cross your fingers and trust the odds that you collide with someone are pretty low)
