Make the following changes throughout the ruleset, except in the appendix rule Spelling:

* change the term “Pilot” to “Emperor”.
* change the term “Poindexter” to “Player”.

Change the second bullet point in the Appendix rule Spelling to read as follows:

The text in this rule in quotation marks is flavour text. If it is not the Seventh Dynasty of Bucky, any Emperor may remove all of the text in this bullet point that is not in quotation marks (including the quotation marks themselves). “The terms Player and [...] are synonyms.”

Per discussion on the proposal Lockbox.

This overwrites the two other bullet points in “Spelling”.

Also a potential problem in whether a word within flavour text counts as a “term” for the purposes of an Ascension. (If I ascend and announce that the new word for the term of Player is “Robot”, does that reach into the flavour text?)

That flavour text is “not considered to have any meaning beyond being a string of characters” would suggest that it’s not using any “terms”, I think. The ruleset probably can’t even tell that it contains individual English words.

Thanks, I’ve fixed the bullet point issue.

Re: ascension: I can’t see a way to fix this that doesn’t break on the next Ascension full stop. Either way, we’re going to have to fix it early in the next dynasty; so I’ve changed it to something a bit more anodyne, for now.

Could add a bullet point along the lines of “The terms “Player” and “Emperor” are not synonyms, and this takes precedence over the previous bullet point. Any Player or Emperor may delete this bullet point if the word “Player” is not spelled P-l-a-y-e-r.”

It still has the issue that when the next dynasty starts the new Player will change the word “Player” to their new term for Emperor, re-reversing the meaning of the bullet point in Spelling.

Maybe we could just have a dynastic rule of “The second bullet point of Spelling does not apply during this dynasty, and the fifth word of it shall not be updated upon Ascension.”

That has basically the same effect as what I’ve put in this CfJ - it restores the status quo after the next Ascension except that the new term for Player will have to be inserted by proposal at that point.

True enough, I got back there the long way, wondering how to approach it without touching the core rules at all. I suppose I’d rather spare the next Emperor from having to make a proposal to replace “[...]”, weighing those two up.

Noting also that this CfJ still says “rule” instead of “bullet point”.

Thank you; have amended.

We may as well just repeal the bullet point, if all this is giving the next dynasty is a dead “[...]” rule that they’ll have to propose to fix anyway.

But we should get this fixed.

I think we should all be Empresses.
