Proposal: The Amulet of Yendor

Enacted popular, 7-0. Josh

Adminned at 11 Dec 2021 09:40:27 UTC

Add the following to the end of the section of ruletext headed “The Weakness”:

As a weekly action, any Soul with a Relic may carry out an Assault the Dark One action, which is an Atomic Action with the following steps:

* Set their own Prominence to zero;
* Set their Visibility to Unseen;
* Make a Story Post to the Blog stating that they are Assaulting the Dark One. This is referred to as an Assault Post.

Within 48 hours of an Assault Post having been posted, the Dark One must respond with either a FOR voting icon, signifying that the Soul carrying out the Assault in question is carrying a Relic whose name is the same noun as the Dark One’s Weakness; or an AGAINST icon, signifying that they do not. If the Dark One’s response to an Assault Post is a FOR icon then the Soul that posted that Assault Post has achieved Victory. Otherwise, they do not.

“If the response is a FOR icon” means it could be a response by anyone, yes?

I don’t think so - only the Dark One is permitted to make a response - but I’m just about within the 4h window so have removed the ambiguity altogether

(Perfect proposal title, by the way.)

Looking carefully at the steps again, against just because this skips the chain of events spelled out in “Mortality and Darkness.” I think if you have some Prominence and lose all of it, you should switch teams. I’m generally in favor of this victory condition, though.

Doesn’t that happen automatically?

It does; “If a Soul other than the Dark One is Seen and has zero Prominence, then any player may and should make that Soul Unseen, and when they do so, must simultaneously set that Soul’s team to Mortals (if that Soul was most recently a Dark Soul) or to Darkness (if that Soul was most recently a Mortal Soul).”

This proposal doesn’t need to restate that as it is a necessary effect of having their Prominence set to zero.

for I’m still not totally convinced about the order of operations here, but I did promise on Discord to vote in favor of interesting victory conditions, so CoV.

Actually, I might have come round to your way of thinking on the order of operations; it is possible for someone to do this, then quickly find a way to raise their prominence to avoid flipping. I’ll do a patch proposal in a bit, as I don’t think it’s a zero-hour scam.

Is “Weakness” the same noun as the dark one’s weakness?

I think probably not, but maybe. Its a noun, and the same noun as “weakness” but “the dark one’s weakness” different. But figured it doesn’t hurt to at least raise the concern.
