Call for Judgment: The Direction of Falling Sand

Uphold the Sands of the Hourglass atomic action executed on January 8 2024 with the results that were posted in this post.

Zack suggested in Discord that the section of the Sands of the Hourglass that says “find their latest valid private request” covers Travel, Possess a Corpse, Necrotic Redirection, Planar Portal, Bid on a Card, and Play a Card. The counter-argument is that the latter two are covered in separate bulleted steps outside of that bulleted step containing “find their latest valid request”, indicating the intent to treat them as separate and additional requests. This CfJ is to uphold the latter interpretation for the most recent Sands of the Hourglass. NOTE: This disagreement of interpretation will affect future Sands of the Hourglass, so private requests should probably be revised until then.

Just gonna repost what I sent in discord:

I’m afraid I disagree with the requests not being legal. The formatting of the bullet points seems to indicate to me that you
1. choose one of the actions from among the Locations-related actions to perform, based on what the requested
2. after that, resolve played cards from requests
3. resolved bids from requests

The bullets under step 1 being indented indicates to me that only one of those is legal at a time, but everything after the indent is no longer being restricted from the “choose either of the following based on its contents” wording.

If we feel it’s necessary to change the wording to reflect my view (I don’t feel it necessary), then I am amenable.

though I don’t think there is anything to uphold here. I made all my moves in one single request

for When you put it that way Clucky I agree, for some reason I hadn’t realized that it doesn’t conflict with SOTH for one single request to express multiple separate things.

Yeah we should probably still resolve the issue of if splitting your moves across multiple requests is allowed

RAW I believe it isn’t, since all references to requests and actions derived therefrom in the Hourglass refer to the last or latest request
