Proposal: The Final Frontier

Replace the term “Player” with “Pioneer” throughout the ruleset.

I keep tripping over myself mid-sentence when writing the word “Player” in a rule, because it feels like I can’t remember the correct dynastic term. We seem to be building and influencing a fledgling planetary colony, so maybe we’re “Pioneers”?

imperial I often find myself doing the opposite - writing player and forgetting there is a dynastic term. Whatever works for the most people.

imperial ‘Pioneer’ feels wrong. It feels more like we’re wealthy quasi-political figures; Barons or Dukes, maybe.

I think Josh’s point is correct. Pioneer could be a historical term, but I would say think more the oligarchs than explorers.

Remember that player is short for “power player”, which is what we are. I don’t like the idea of changing it.

However I’m totally supporting a flavour substitute for Player. I don’t think that would be confusing (as long as it’s not confused with Councilmen or whatever), and to me “player” doesn’t sounds short for “power player” at all.

Arguably, this would cause every Institution to be Unpowered.
