Proposal: The Greatest Trick the Devil Ever Pulled

Withdrawn. Failed by Kevan.

To the rule “Living Beings”, add:-

A Human Demiurge may set their presence to Demon at any time, if their Ideology Allegiance is an Ideology that they do not own.

Add a subrule to “Living Beings” titled “Diabolical Victories”:-

The Omnipotence may judge a declaration of victory to be Diabolical by making a comment on it to that effect, if in their opinion it involved the performance of a scam.

If a declaration of victory is Diabolical and the Demiurge who posted it is not a Demon, or had not been a Demon for more than 48 hours prior to its declaration, then it may not be enacted, and may be failed by any admin.

Adding Demons to the game, as the only players who can win by scam.

Defining a scam has always been tricky, and “average player” here is I think a little wide of the mark. What if the Omnipotence declares diabolical and it’s contested? Could I avoid a dov being marked diabolical by DMing half the players the exact details of the scam one second before posting the DoV, making it a mechanism that an “average” player by any metric would know about in advance and this expect?

I’m using “average player” more in the “man on the Clapham omnibus” sense, the chances of a random new player joining the game at that point noticing it.

Perhaps it’s a fool’s errand to try and add a definition, though, and we’d be okay with the Emperor knowing it when they see it. I’ll cut that clause. (It said “defined in this case as exploiting the ruleset in a manner that an average player would not have expected to be possible”, for historical reference.)

I’d expect the fallout of a wrong call to be enough to give the Emperor pause before declaring Diabolism.

On a second reading of this, I do see a major issue in it. It essentially means that demons have no reason to join an ideology because if they ever help their team win, that win is diabolic.

Perhaps a patch should be made so that it cares about the primary participant(s) in the scam being demonic rather than the person who posted the victory. That way, they can still push their ideology leader to victory while that leader keeps their hands clean.

I’d make the patch myself, but I’m out of slots.
