Enact a new rule, “Reality”:-

Each dynastic rule has a Reality score, being a non-negative integer defaulting to 10, and tracked at the end of the rule’s name in square brackets. (The bracketed score may be omitted when referring to a rule by name.) A Reality score of 10 indicates that the rule is considered objectively true and trusted; a lower score indicates that it could yet prove to be illusory.

Whenever a dynastic rule is enacted or amended, its Reality score is set to 10 minus the lowest Hallucination Severity Rating among the Castaways who voted in favour of the proposal that enacted or amended it.

Set the Reality score of the “Hallucinations” and “Reality” rules to 10.

[TyGuy6] I’d be in favour of keeping the “illusory” mechanic very simple and structured: just something like “if a Castaway appears to be in two places, resolve it randomly weighted by Reality scores” or “now and again make a Reality saving throw for a rule, if it fails it’s repealed”.

So, rules that disappear unexpectedly. Interesting CfJs over weird disappeared interactions, people resubmitting their favorites, and so on. Kind of chaotic, no? Or otherwise too slow to be. Fits an insanity theme. Weatherman’s not crazy about it, just yet.

There are plenty of directions this could go in. I’d want to avoid the chaos of confusing rule interactions as well, but I think even a very mild take on the idea of some rules being more fragile than others would be an interesting bit of Nomic to explore.
