Proposal: The Quantity Theory of Insanity

In the rule “Emotions”, add a new paragraph before the paragraph beginning “If a single Emotion”:-

“Increasing” an Emotion means replacing it with the Emotion immediately higher than it within the same Nature; “decreasing” an Emotion means replacing it with the Emotion immediately lower than it within the same Nature. A Crewmember may at any time select two of their own Emotions (excluding “Disabled” and “Injured”) and increase one while decreasing the other: both Emotions must change for the action to occur. An Android may at any time add or remove any Emotion from themselves (excluding “Disabled” and “Injured”) so long as this would leave them with no more than one Emotion per Nature.

I feel like this gives Crewmembers too much control over their emotions; for now, it means a Crewmember can essentially adopt any emotion at any time, although it requires modifying their other emotions.

for but I’m not sure why an Android would add or take away their own emotions, considering it seems to be a way of broadcasting their android-ness.

[Sylphrena] It just seemed like a fun thing to unleash if their identity was compromised and it no longer mattered.

Bucky makes a good point, though, players adopting a brief emotion to serve a purpose and then dancing straight back to an obvious, bland equilibrium isn’t very interesting.
