Proposal: The Trading Post

Reaches quorum, 4-0. Enacted by pokes.

Create a new rule called “Locations” with the text:

Each Adventurer has a location tracked in the GNDT, which is either “Town” (the default) or “The Wilds”. Adventurers can change their location at any time.

Create a new rule called “Items” with the text:

The [[Marketplace]] page is ordained for Item Tracking.

In the Marketplace, there is a list of item types. Each item has the attributes described in the Marketplace.

Each player has an inventory, tracked in the GNDT, which is list of items. If trades of items are specified in the Marketplace, players can destroy the set of items on the first side of the trade to gain the set of items on the other side if and only if they are located in the Town.

Replace the final bullet point in the list in “Hunting” with the following:

*If the generated number is greater than or equal to the Target’s hit points:
**Remove the Target from the list of monsters in the wilds.
**For each item in the Target’s type’s spoils list, generate a random number between 1 and 10. If this number is higher than that element’s drop rate, add the item to your inventory.

In “Monsters”, replace:

a frequency, which is an integer between 1 and 10

with

a frequency, which is an integer between 1 and 10, and a list of spoils, which is a list of items paired with a drop rate, which is an integer between 1 and 10.

Create a new page on the wiki called “Marketplace” with the following text:

== List of Items ==

=== Coins ===

‘‘Fashioned out of pure copper, these are the official currency of the entire civilized world.’‘

*Trades:
**1 bat wing → 3 coins
** 1 bone → 15 coins
** 1 monster guts → 20 coins

=== Bat Wing ===

‘‘Thin and delicate, these wings are rather easy to salvage. They’re not extremely useful, but they fetch a decent price.’‘

*Trades:
**1 bat wing → 3 coins

=== Monster Bones ===

‘‘Famously dense, monster bones are great for making weapons and for fertilization.’‘

* Trades:
** 1 bone → 15 coins

=== Monster Guts ===

‘‘They look and smell disgusting, but if you can stand the scent long enough to get them to a trading post, they’ll fetch a high price, as many see them as a delicacy.’‘

* Trades:
** 1 monster guts → 20 coins

Add a column to the table in the Bestiary with the heading “Spoils”. Set the bat’s spoils to “Bat Wing (4), Bat Wing (4)” and set the goblin’s spoils to “Monster Bones (7), Monster Guts (5)”

I’m still getting used to the BlogNomic ruleset writing style, so please tell me how I did with that. Again, this is intentionally barebones. The flavor text of the items contain minor spoilers for later plans.

What do you envision as being the relevance of being in the Town vs. the Wilds? If you can move at any time it’s just an extra fiddly bit.

Having the trades listed twice is also strange. But these are irrelevant complaints in the big picture.  for

I went back and forth about the Town vs Wilds being free or time-bound. I decided on this version, but I didn’t even think about removing the mechanic. That one’s on me. We can give it relevance later or repeal it. Would you guys be interested in a deal where you can only choose one to be in every Respawn?

The trades being listed twice was done so that you can immediately scroll to the item you want and see anything you can craft it into and anything that creates it at a moment’s glance. Perhaps this is unnecessary to anyone with a search page function, but I thought it would be convenient. If you think it makes the page bloated, there’s nothing mandating them being listed twice.
