Proposal: The Two-dynastic Scoreboard

Create a new rule, “Success Continuity”:

This rule cannot be repealed by Dynastic Reset. Once a Dynastic Reset completes, the text of this rule changes to “Each Agent has a publicly tracked count of Successes, defaulting to the median value of Successes among all other Agents, rounded down.” and (at the same time as the previous change) each Agent’s Successes is set to the number of Successes they had immediately prior to the most recent enactment of a Declaration of Victory (or to its default value if they were not an Agent at that time), except that if the Custodian is an Agent their Successes are set to 0.

Iterating on the interdynastic scoreboard idea, and making it even simpler – instead of making Successes last through all dynasties, why not just keep the value around for the next dynasty (to give players an incentive to do well in this dynasty even if they can’t win it?). Note that there is no guarantee that they would be used for anything next dynasty, but it is possible that because the statistic is avaliable, it will be used for something.

I think that something like this will be required to make the dynasty function if “Acceleration” fails. If “Acceleration” succeeds, it’s less important but still functions correctly.

The Dynastic Reset will replace words in this rule to match the new theme, so the rule works even across theme changes.

Clucky’s objections notwithstanding, I don’t think that our choices are limited to this and your “Acceleration” proposal. Did you read the one I put up, and if so, would you please comment on it and let us know why you don’t think it’s sufficient?

I’ve commented on it now.

We will shouldn’t be forcing people to include a rule in the next dynasty

If the players of the next dynasty want to include a rule like this they should vote on it then

against just… why? I see no reason for this at all

@Darknight: To give players a reason to try to win the round for their team (gaining a Success in the process) even if it would cause someone else to win the game.

As it is, the team structure of the dynasty breaks down once someone gets close to winning.

But why does it need to carry over to another dynasty? I get that you have a plan for it if you get the DoV, but how is it fair to anyone else who might manage a win? Yes they don’t have to use it by why clutter the Ruleset with a rule that isn’t doing anything and why cause someone to have to use a proposal slot to repeal it?

@Darknight: To stop this dynasty collapsing. It’s meant to be a team-based dynasty with the Guards (mostly) working together, and the Burglars (mostly) working together. The recent proposals (e.g. “A More Meaningful Round of Play”) change that in cases where someone is close to a win (because the game becomes about Fame/Infamy, which are individual statistics that aren’t benefited by working as a team), meaning that the dynastic mechanics stop functioning correctly, and this is an attempt to balance around that.
