Proposal: These Classrooms All Look The Same

At 1-10, cannot be enacted without a CoV, and fails. —Brendan

Add the following as a subrule to “Spells”, named “Prankster Hobgoblin”:

Difficulty Level: BST 4, UNE 0, LAT 3
Effect: Once, immediately after completing this Spell, the Caster may switch the names of two Subjects in the rule “Disasters”.

In “Disasters”, change “The Alive Student with the lowest Grade in Explosive Latin” to “The Alive Student with the lowest Grade in this Subject”.

As it is now, some subjects are fairly safe to study whilst others could have game-changing effects if their disasters are triggered. This will even the odds a bit, and make the decision to Study less of a no-brainer. The RNY/UNE disasters could lead to a huge swing towards Good/Evil if they’re triggered in a crowded classroom. I’m not sure if that is a good thing or not.

against A predictable spread of danger seems more interesting than every lesson having the same potential for a serious disaster. This is effectively just a spell of “trigger a RNY/UNE disaster in any class, and get a Grudge and an F”.

That’s not entirely fair. It still requires high BST and LAT, and a C in UNE, and decrements your grades in these Subjects as well, so it’s quite an investment for a reversible effect. If all Students flock towards the same Lesson and set themselves up for zombification, that’s their problem. Personally, I’d be more worried about the DIV disaster being chain-triggered in a full classroom.

That it’s “reversible” isn’t any consolation - anyone investing in this spell is likely to Disrupt the relevant lesson immediately. And a game mechanic of “if too many students attend the same lesson, they may all get zombified, that’s their problem” is just going to quieten the game down, and disadvantage players who check the blog less frequently (and have no choice but to join an already-busy lesson).

against As much as I liked the idea at first Kevan is very persuasive.

against I don’t much care for spells that let you edit the ruleset in any fashion.
