Proposal: This time for sure

Times out 6-2.
4 “after” votes. Clause passes.
-Ornithopter

Hopefully the last fix to the Standing mechanics.

Move “, and the proposer’s Standing increases by an amount equal to the increase in the continent’s Influence” from its current place in “Politics” to the end of the sentence before the one it’s in.

Add 2 to dogfish’s standing.
Add 2 to Kevan’s standing.
Add 2 to soyweiser’s standing.

Add 2 to arthexis’s standing if “Proposal: The Evil Council meets again” passed, and e did not already receive standing for it’s passing.
Add 2 to Kevan’s standing if “Proposal: Standing Orders” passed, and e did not already receive standing for it’s passing.
Add 2 to Ornithopter’s standing if “Proposal: If if if if if ifififififififif” passed, and e did not already receive standing for it’s passing.
Add 2 to Yoda’s standing if “Proposal: Overruling a Veto, Take 2” passed, and e did not already receive standing for it’s passing.

If “Proposal: If if if if if ifififififififif” failed, move “, and the Overlord’s Standing to be increased by the total of these die rolls” from its current location in “Doomsday Device” to the end of the last sentence of the second paragraph, and add 2 to Jay’s standing and 4 to Ornithopter’s.

——

Fixing the DoV banning rules, per Kevan’s observation about the current illegality of the system.

Change the second sentence of the third paragraph of Rule 1.9 to “If more than half of those votes favor punishment, then the DoV fails, and the poster is added to the list in Rule 1.9.1 followed in parenthesis by the date and time 168 hours after the “Adminned” timestamp on their DoV (the “expiration date” of their ban).”

Create a subrule of Rule 1.9 entitled “Current Bans” with text:

Henchmen listed below are unable to make a Declaration of Victory. Any henchman may remove a henchman and that henchman’s expiration date from the list at any time, so long as the listed henchman’s expiration date has passed. All henchmen shall be removed from the list whenever a Declaraion of Victory passes.

Remove “The Oubliette” from the ruleset.

——
Clarifying “Politics”.

If more than half of all valid “for” votes contain the text “after”, change the second sentence of “Politics” to read “If after this Standing is added, that Continent has the lowest Influence or is tied for the lowest amongst all continents, the proposer gets 1 Free Plane Ticket, and the proposer’s Standing increases by an amount equal to the increase in the continent’s Influence.”

If more than half of all valid “for” votes do not contain the text “after”, change the second sentence of “Politics” to read “If before this Standing is added, that Continent has the lowest Influence or is tied for the lowest amongst all continents, the proposer gets 1 Free Plane Ticket, and the proposer’s Standing increases by an amount equal to the increase in the continent’s Influence.”; give 1 Free Plane Ticket each to dogfish, Kevan, and soyweiser; give 1 FPT to arthexis if “Proposal: The Evil Council meets again” passed, and eir location was had the lowest or was tied for lowest influence at the time it passed; give 1 FPT to Kevan if “Proposal: Standing Orders” passed, and eir location was had the lowest or was tied for lowest influence at the time it passed; give 1 FPT to Ornithopter if “Proposal: If if if if if ifififififififif” passed, and eir location was had the lowest or was tied for lowest influence at the time it passed; and give 1 FPT to Yoda if “Proposal: Overruling a Veto, Take 2” passed, and eir location was had the lowest or was tied for lowest influence at the time it passed.

Admins are encouraged to mention whether the proposer’s location fulfills the requirements of the proposer’s receiving an FPT, so whoever enacts this doesn’t have to dig through the GNDT and Earth page logs to figure out who gets plane tickets if the “after” clause fails.

against I do not like the DoV banning system. The standing stuff is fine.

I think too much was stuffed in this proposal, the first part is good, the middle one not so much and the last one is ok…

Yoda:

for I would rather see it before.

aaronwinborn:

and if you’re going to go through it, can you at least translate 168 hours to a week for convenience?

Aaronwinborn: The DoV banning system is already there, it’s just broken. It’s better to vote “for” on this, and have everything else go through and then your proposal will still revert the punishment out of the rule.  And the reason it says 168 hours instead of 7 days is to avoid confusion between the intended 168 hour period and the entirely legitamate interpretation of “at midnight at the end of the seventh day”.

arthexis: The only thing this proposal does is fix various broken things about the ruleset. The first fixes standing (again), the second fixes the Piranha Tank, and the third just clarifies “Politics”, since my interpretation of it is different than the one Yoda was using. If I had the slots for three proposals, it would be three proposals (more standing for me!), but I only had one, and I didn’t think anyone would object, since none of it actually changes any of the intended mechanics of anything.

for I’ll vote FOR for now. I still don’t like the middle part, but it is more important that the first and last parts pass.

for after: forgot to put it in my vote. If anyone cares, it was the ‘after’ effect that I intended with Politics from the start.

for Although the DoV banning rule is going to be sitting blank for 362 days a year, which all seems a bit pointless. I’ll see which way No Witch Hunts blows before proposing further changes.

And since Hix isn’t here to say it… Those “if more than half of comments” clauses aren’t as innocently democratic a shortcut as they look - if I’m somewhat in favour of option one but dead against option two, then I’m under pressure to vote against the whole thing in case my vote would help option two get through.

Yoda:

The Piranha Tank will be removed by “Proposal: No Witch Hunts” regardless of whether or not this proposal fixes it.
