Proposal: Town Meeting:  “I will keep them from harm and injustice.”

Timed out, 3 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan - Aaron is no longer the doctor.

Sorry, it’s 2 to 2, timed out. Failed by Elias IX. I’ve neutrally reverted the change.

Add a paragraph to the sub-rule “The Doctor” reading:

If it is currently after 11 November 2007, and if no Villagers were savaged by werewolves on 11 November 2007, then delete this paragraph from the Ruleset.  If any Villagers have been savaged by werewolves on 11 November 2007, then change aaronwinborn’s Occupation to “Peasant” (even if aaronwinborn is idle), and replace this paragraph in the Ruleset with “aaronwinborn’s Occupation may not be changed to Doctor.  If it is currently December, delete this paragraph from the Ruleset.”

Tonight, it is crucial that the Doctor is successful in upholding this part of his oath.  If he fails, he should be considered at least a little suspect, and another should be given the opportunity to take up this duty.

The proposal creates self-repealing ruletext so that I don’t have to make special cases for the (admittedly unlikely) possibility that this proposal is enacted before the next nighttime is over, which would also have required the proposal to possibly have a delayed effect; I know that some small number of you don’t approve of such proposals.

Should we take this to mean that you believe the good Doctor has inside information on who’s going to die tonight?  He only gets to protect one person, and I’m not convinced it’s fair to demote him because he failed to guess the correct random number from 1 to 14.  If I were him I’d be fervently targeting myself.

Speaking of which, uh, there are apparently only 19 active Villagers.  I’ll fix that.

Elias IX has now been savaged by wolves. The Doctor was in another part of the village, and did not save him.

Note that I’m dead and can’t vote on this, so deferential votes are genuine abstentions here.

against Town meetings shouldn’t make rules; they should do something.

The only way to legally enforce a “do this thing on this future date” mechanic is to enact it as a self-repealing rule.
