Proposal: Trdmarkd!

Create a new rule called, “Trademark Lines”:

A Scripter may create a Trademarked Line during a Scene. To do so, the line must be at least 4 words long, appear within quotes in the script section, and a Trademark Notice must be included afterwards within that Scene’s comment. The Trademark notice must be formatted as: “X is a registered trademark of Y” where X is the Trademarked Line and Y is the name of its creator.

If a Scripter includes an existing Trademarked Line in their Script (even one which they didn’t create), they must allways include a Trademark Notice naming the original creator of the line. When the Act is closed by the producer, each Scripter who created a Trademarked line which was used by a different Scripter during that act may increase their Popularity by 1.

Another new mechanic that play around the concept of popularity. This could also help team play.

against Seems a shame to have team-play backslapping cluttering up the scene descriptions, and I don’t see that there’s much interesting use of it beyond that (apart from speculatively trademarking common phrases on the off-chance that someone uses them by mistake in a much later act, and invalidates their scene).

against I’m for changes that add additional options, including hilarious self-imposed restriction opportunities. I’m not so much for making the core mechanic require more thought than typing something funny that’s suitable for the Act.

against S/K: Taking it back due to the Producer’s take on the scene. I will think of other mechanics that self-impose restrictions…
