umm, captain?

We seem to have had a problem with 2 people editing the GNDT at the same time.

Where’s the trouble? The only simeultaneous entry that I see is:

*****************************

20/02 16:43 (BST) - Elias IX
Banja’s GPS = 0 (was 9)

20/02 16:43 (BST) - Bucky
Elias IX’s Motley = 2 Cutlasses, 19 Lice, Eyepatch (right) (was 2 Cutlasses, Eyepatch (right))
(Last louse)

*****************************

20/02 16:44 (BST) - Bucky
Comment:
(Fruit test: 2FRUIT:Hooch 2FRUIT:Hooch)
20/02 16:44 (BST) - Elias IX
Bucky’s GPS = 2 (was 0)
(Confiscating 2 lice, throwing overboard.)

20/02 16:44 (BST) - Elias IX
Bucky’s Motley = 30 lice (was 32 lice)
(Confiscating 2 lice, throwing overboard.)

*****************************

Generally the game actions are first, first serve, unless otherwise stated in the rules. I assume that the earlier listing denotes the earlier action, perhaps Kevan could comment on this?

Which of the entries do you object to, and why?

As specified in the Glossary, game variables defined to hold numeric values can hold only non-negative integers, and any action that would set those values below zero instead sets them to zero.

Therefore, your GPS was zero. By removing two lice, your GPS became two.

Where does it say anywhere that removing a louse gives you GPS +1? Iff the glossary says that the louse failed to give you -1, but gave you -0 istead, shouldn’t removing it just remove the -0, leaving eir GPS at 0?

That depends on how you interpret the modifier.  What we seem to be doing is tracking the raw GPS and modifier separately.  Thus, a GPS of 9 with a modifier of -32 makes an effective GPS of -23, which is set to 0 since it is negative.  Changing the modifier to -30 would make an effective GPS of -21, which still gets set to 0 rather than 2.  This interpretation, apparently that of The Lone Amigo Long John Bluebeard, has the convenient side effect of avoiding the so-called reversal effect.

If you judge this interpretation to be wrong, I will cheerfully dispose of my lice (in fact, I might already do that)
